Tobias
Red-Tailed hawk sat perched on a treebranch of a dead tree. His sharo eyes are steel, ice-cold. They seem to pierce through you. He ruffled his feathers, looking around as if the Canyon was his.
Mesa
The young falcon had left the Alleys for a brief exploration of the surrounding Valley. She still lived near her mother and 'pack' family, but she also loved to explore on her own as well.
She was young, but was also an adult by now. Spotting the other raptor, Mesa titled her bullet-like body forward and dropped lightly into a nearby branch. She gazed at the hawk with yellow-ringed eyes, curious about him.
Tobias
He heard the other approach. His head jerked towards the landed raptor.
Hello young peregrine. He said, examining the one before her.
Mesa
The welcome was an encouragement to her and she nodded her sleek head, "Hello. Ehh... what are you?" she tried to sound polite about it, for she had never been told about many other birds of prey. "You've got some interesting feathers. Er, colors, I mean. " Now her sharp eyes looked over his beak and talons, "You eat birds and stuff?"
Tobias
He listened intently, still aware for any food. Her question made the sleek head turn.
"I am a Red-Tailed Hawk." He accepted her question like she intended it to be. Polite.
"Thanks, and No, I don't eat other birds. I eat mice and rabbits and small animals like that. But if I must, or I am forced, I will eat roadkill or smaller birds."
His glasses jerked to the canyon again, searching for anything moving. A twitch that shouldn't be there, something suspicious like that.
When nothing occured, he turned back to the young falcon.
Mesa
"Ohh." She said at length, repeating the name in her mind. "I guess I can see the logic of that dubbing." She laughed a bit and then listened to his next reply. "Don't eat other birds really? Hhhm, guess I've never tried rabbit before. But eh, I prefere to catch things from the air." Mesa pointed out, happy to be learning something from a fellow raptor. "Is rabbit good?"
Tobias
Tobias listened and was a bit shocked.
"Rabbit is pretty tasty, really. It soothes hunger a lot more than mouse, anyway."
Mesa
She tilted her head to the side in thought. "Hhhmmm...." Mesa gazed towards the distant ground, beyond the canyon edge before speaking up, "Maybe you can catch me a rabbit to taste? And I could catch you a duck. My mother says I am a duck hawk. Although... I've never caught a duck yet." She beamed proudly. Living with the Shadow Lurkers pack in the Alleys meant that her main food source came from pigeons and rats, and what scraps her friends could find for her.
Tobias
"Good idea. Rabbits ain't too hard too find, usually, that'll be easy. And ducks are in the water areas, right? We got like 3 or 4 water areas." Tobias smiled back. Years of hunting in the meadows made him satisfied every day.
Mesa
"Wonderful!" She responded, flicked her wings out a bit in anticipation for the hunt, "Should we meet back here then? I'm not sure where you will catch your rabbit, but I'm heading for the Marsh for my duck." Mesa noted, readying to take off. She had lived so esclusively in the Alleys that she rarely saw any rabbits; and when she did, she didn't bother to ask what kind of creature it was.
Tobias
Tobias nodded, ruffling his feathers.
"Rabbits usually run around here, Ill have no problem."
He turned his crown to the canyon, watching out for any movements. He flapped his wings and took flight, soaring around the top of the canyon.
Mesa
"Good then, I'll be back soon. I hope." She replied, slightly doubting her hunting abilities, because she hadn't practiced a whole lot. The falcon sprung from her perch, taking to the air and heading for the Marsh.
Tobias
Tobias watched her till she wasa speck in the sky. Then he looked down hard as he could.
It seemed like Forever until he saw something.
Twitch.
Twitch.
Sniff.
A rabbit! A big white one, sitting on a rock. He dove...
CLose enough!
Wings shot out, talons raked forward...
And...
YES!
His talons closed tightly around teh rabbit, one talon dug into its neck on accident, but alive or dead, he did not care.
Tobias brought his prize back to his perch, a with great difficulty on its size. Then he watched for Mesa.
