Stormrunner
The gray wolf traveled quickly at first, eager to put some distance between himself and his father. He'd been thankful for his sister's intervention in keeping Starscream at bay, but now the hard work began - getting food for and earning the trust of a dying big cat. He'd kept mum on the journey until they'd reached the Canyon, and only then did Stormrunner begin to slow his rushed pace and speak on what their mission truly was about.
"We are hunting something." He said, with that same mischievous glint to his brown and gold eyes. He'd stopped now, turning to fully face his cousin as his banner swayed lightly behind him. "But it's not just for us and the pack." His voice grew a little lower and he leaned slightly closer to Blackmist, a grin tugging at his maw as he shared his secret with pup-like delight, "I found a big cat. She's really sick, or hurt... I'm not sure which, but she couldn't even stand up. I figured if we fed her and took care of her until she's better, she could be friends with us like Namir was with grandma."
Hawk
Hawk had followed his cousin diligently, never straying more than a few steps behind the other. His auds were up and pressed forward, eagerly awaiting the announcement of Storm's plan, but having the control not to press him for details until he was ready to explain what they were really doing all the way out here in the Canyon.
"A cat?" Hawk blinked, golden eyes appearing perplexed at first. Stormrunner's innocent delight was infectious though, and despite himself, Hawk's tail began to wag in subconscious excitement too. "Like... how big are we talking? Bobcat, or tiger?" Caution tempered his intrigued, and a logical mind inquired for all the important details, "Where is she?"
Stormrunner
"Big cat." Storm emphasized, before his cheerful expression devolved into one of thoughtful confusion, "...um, I guess cougar? It looked like one anyway, but it had some stripes on it. Or were those shadows from the branches above?" Truth be told, Stormrunner wasn't entirely sure what species Dawnstride was, and had no idea she was a hybrid. With a mental shrug, the wolf tossed his head to the side, looking off into the distant lands beyond the canyon, "In any case, she's at Galar's Marsh right now, under some brambles and stuff. I figured we'll get her a meal to start off."
Hawk
"Cougar?" Hawk was nodding slowly as he mulled over this information, and thought back over the stories his father and uncle Starscream had told them of Namir. The idea both excited and terrified him, with the former emotion easily winning out. "Lets find some food then; we should probably try to find some deer, just so your dad doesn't get suspicious, you know."
Stormrunner
Stormrunner chuckled nervously at the idea of his dad finding out, "Yeah... heh, best keep him in the dark about this one until we're good friends with the cat." His mind briefly traveled to thoughts about Eagle and Scorp, and wondered how well they'd take the news. Or big brother Megs....
'Nah, they'll think it's cool too.' He assured himself, while his nose dropped to the ground. Almost distractedly, he began sniffing about for scents of prey, looking in in particular for piles of dung or bits of shed fur that would tell him a deer had been in the area recently.
Hawk
Hawk fell into his own thoughts as he too dropped his nose to the ground began to fan out beside his cousin, on the lookout for anything that could provide them and a maybe-cougar with a decent meal. He strayed further from Stormrunner to cover more ground, sweeping one way and then the other before eventually stumbling across a scent that set his mouth to watering. Mountain goat.
"Stormy, I think I got something." He alerted his companion with a quieted voice, using a nod of his head and flick of his tail to motion Storm his way. He moved deftly now, taking each step with care as he began to follow the trail. The path led him down a steep embankment, twisting away from the upper face of the canyon and diving down into a broad side-ravine. Hawk followed it carefully, mindful not to slip on the loose rocks as the going got more perilous. Eventually the path opened out a little more, and Hawk stopped suddenly in his tracks. Ahead of them, not more than a dozen yards away, was an older mountain goat lying next to a twisted cedar tree.
The wolf looked back, golden eyes dancing with intensity. The goat hadn't heard them yet, and if they acted swiftly, dinner would be theirs.
Stormrunner
A pale ear swiveled to his cousin's voice, followed quickly by his head as he stopped in his tracks. "Deer?" He queried in a whisper, already skipping over rocks and around leafless shrubs as he descended the steep embankment, following Hawk's guidance until they both were laying eyes on a different kind of cerivd.
He'd never really hunted goat before, but fresh meat was fresh meat. Stormrunner nodded silently at his friend, beginning to stalk forward as soundlessly as he could manage. Once he felt he was close enough, Storm charged forward with an explosion of speed, trying to catch the mountain goat off guard, and wrestle him to the ground with a bite on the back of the neck...
Hawk & *Goat*
Hawk followed Stormrunner's lead, waiting motionless until the other had put on that sudden burst of speed and broke cover. Down the slope he went, scattering scree and chunks of ice as he cleared ground at a frightening pace. With gravity on their side, both wolves reached their prey before their prey had the time to jump to his hooves.
Storm struck him first, nabbing the goat's neck, while Hawk slammed into him next, grabbing the unlucky creature by the haunches. The goat went down hard, its legs buckling before they could fully extend. Its bleats of protest echoed through the stony walls of the canyon. The struggle didn't last long however, and within a few short minutes, their prey was brought down.
