An Elegant Trogon flew swiftly over the ground on broad wings before perching on a budding tree. This was not at all like his desert home, but it was better than most places here. He let out a hoarse, spitting call to alert intruders of his presence. Though he did not mind making a few friends here and there, he was mainly solitary.
Sang made her way to the canyon on stilt like legs, her black coat beginning to shed its winter coat. She panted slightly as she climbed up the hill side, but then she heard the scream of a bird. Now what on earth was that? She came trotting forth, her eyes seeking until they landed upon Nikta. Sitting down, she looked up at him, staring at his magnificent colors. Hello. She said to him. Nothing else was offered, just a very simple hello. So friendly, now wasn't she?
Nikta looked down upon Sang. What creature is this? He thought. He had seen dogs before, but none like this. "Hello. Are you native to this place? I have just arrived. Against my will..." He said, cocking his brilliantly colored head and smiling as best as a bird could.
Yeah...Yeah I'm a native. My names Sang, daughter of Legosa and Aaka. Whats your name? Her eyes never left his magnificent colors, they were just so...Vibrant. She wasn't a wolf, more of a hybrid. Mostly wolf however, put the instincts to hunt in her but she couldn't hunt something after she'd talked to it. Now the only things she ate were rabbits and fish. Yeah, some diet huh? Why against your will?
Nikta flew to a lower branch. "I'm Nikta, son of...I don't remember who." He said. It had been a while since he had seen his family. A look of sorrow could be seen in his eyes when he thought of his past and how he was brought here. "Let's see..." He started. "A man with a gun came to the breeding ground where my sister and I were staying. We had only just left the nest a few days before. The man, with no mercy or compassion at all, put me in a cage and shot my sister. Is it not heartless to kill a creature who had done no wrong? Something so beautiful?" He stopped to take a deep breath and then continued. "I saw her dead body lying on the ground. He didn't look back. He was laughing like a cold-blooded killer. He brought me here and sold me, but the people who bought me showed pity and released me. I have been here ever since." Tears ran down his face as he spoke of his sister's death. "Why would any sane man want to kill her? Should his heart not rip in two after doing such a horrible deed?"
Something shifted in Sangs eyes, something....Dark. Evil. Aye, that it should my friend. My sister, her name was Laporta. Was. A male, he attacked us when we were pups, and all but brave little Laporta got away. We tried to save her, but he snapped her neck. Then, Sang had disappeared. For nearly a year Sang had hid from her family, from herself. She was still hiding from herself, but her family had come to find her. Fun, right? Not really. Now when she looked upon her family she felt guilt and unease. She should have saved Laporta, but she hadn't. She was pathetic, she really was. Hey...Hey don't cry. I don't like to see my friends cry. Were they friends? Well...Okay. Yeah, friends. She didn't really have any, so why not?
Nikta flew even farther down and was now at eye lever with Sang. "Evil. It hides everywhere these days because it is too afraid to show its hideous face." He said with a burning anger. He too could have saved his sister. He could have warned her of danger. He could have kept an eye out. But it was too late now. She was gone and he would never see her again. This one part of the valley was the closest to his Summer home at Huachuca Canyon. "If you could get revenge, would you? Or do you not hold hate in your heart?" He felt lonely without his sister, but he certainly did not feel afraid.
Her smile was faint as the bird came down from high above. She sat down and watched Nikta through eyes of gold then said softly I would avenge my sister. Nothing more, nothing less. She didn't know fear any more. She had, long ago but now she was older. Stronger. Evil...Comes in many forms. The form of a snake, with its sly and malicious ways. Or the form of a raging bear, out to destroy everything in its path. An avenger, they do nothing but regain what was taken from them.
Nikta nodded. "I admit that I wish ill of the man who took my sister's life away, but I have not the heart to hurt even him." He said softly. "The same man who took me from my southern home will not be punished by me. He will learn his lesson by the guilt inside of him." He flicked his tail and cocked his head, quite intrigued by this creature. She had a good personality.
