Scarlet Angel

The scarlet femme padded towards the lake. She circled thrice then laid down. She watched as the world moved past her.

Zhener

Around in the sky wheel a giant eagle, foreign to this land after human interference. He was a Wedge-Tailed eagle; a massive bird of prey. While foxed had made up a good deal of his diet back in Australia, the eagle had since grown fond of the canine-type race and now declined to eat them.

Spotting the vulpine, Zhener glided happily down from the sky and landed heavily a few yards away. 'Ello!" he piped up merrily, "I am Zhener, who are you?" He didn't think twice that his large size or sudden appearance might frighten the fox.

Scarlet Angel

She whirled around in surprise! "Scarlet Angel."
She said a bit flustered. She looked hard into the
eyes of the stranger. She did not see any anger in his eyes, but there could be. "Where do you come from?" She asked cautiously.

Zhener

Not noticing her fluster, the eagle waddled closer, bobbing his head a bit and getting a good look at the fox. "Pretty name! I come from far avay. Hot place! Humans catch me, but I geet free and end up 'ere. Found good place to live, vith a volf named Moon Spirit and Karai. Bunch of trees, too, zhough I like open places." Zhener explained, showing just how talkative he could be, "Vhat about you?"

Scarlet Angel

"Oh, I see." Was her answer. She let a sigh seep from her chest. "As for me, I came from the north but not too north so it was not too cold." Her head slanted, a dreamy look covered her lovely face.

Zhener

"Zhe norzh?" he repeated pulling his sepia-colored head back in thought. "Vell, I don't know vhere 'norzh' iz, but if itz cold, I not too fond of it!" he stated loudly, giving his long wings a quick flap in emphasis. "I see your kind vhere I lived. Very very far avay! But jus' zhe same creeture. I vonder how your kind geet zhere? And my kind not? Must be zhe humans, ja?"

Scarlet Angel

"Yes, there are humans." here She stated. She tried to hide her laughter. The funny accent was more than she could bear. She hoped he could not sense her laughter, it would afend him she did not want that, she so wanted a friend.

Zhener

The eagle nodded his head thoughtfully, completely unaware of Scarlet Angel's amusment. He was a smart bird, but he just wasn't that quick to pick up on other's emotions and personalities, unless he knew them very well. Not knowing how his awkward accent was making this vulpine laugh, he went on cheerfully, "Ah, I don' like zhe humans! 'Cept for zhe von at zhe farm. She 'elped me vonce, vhen some volves broke a ving of mine." Now Zhener shook his head in disgust at the thought and changed the subject, "Are you hungery? I can geet food quick." he boasted happily. He was keen to make friends, and offering them food was his main way of doing that.

Scarlet Angel

"Yes I’m hungery, and I would be very pleased if you would get food for us, because.." she turned her head side ways to see if some one was watching. She leaned forward and wispered, "I can’t hunt."

Zhener

His eyes opened wider in surprise, "Can't hunt? Vhy is zhat? Vell, no vorry... I vill geet some food! Maybe you come see vhere I live? Don't know vhat Moon Spirit vill say, but I zhink she vill like you. But you don' 'ave too, ja." he turned his beak skyward for a moment, stairing intently at the blue heavens above before going on, "I vill be back soon!" So saying, the eagle beat his massive wings furiously and gained lift. Circling about, he was quickly high in the sky and out of sight. He would be back shortly though.

Zhener

The eagle was soon back, flying low and heavily over the ground with a lamb carcass held in his powerful talons. It was quite a labor to haul such a meal, but he did it without complaint. Dropping the meal on the ground, he circled and landed as well, looking at the fox with beaming eyes, trying to see if she looked pleased. Once he had killed a small dog after confusing it with the discription of a deer and had greatly upset a canine friend of his when he brought the dog's limp body back. Well, he now knew what a deer was and he was cautious not to make the same mistake.

"You like sheep? I eat sheep in my home land. Very good, ja." The particular lamb was covered with dirt; Zhener had stolen it from another wolf's caches. More often than not, he was a scavenger.

Scarlet angel

The scarlet femme looked at the dead sheep. "I don't know." She answered. "I have never had sheep before." She shrugged and took a small bite. "why, its delicious!" She exclaimed.

Zhener

He bobbed his head and his eyes showed his glee where his formless beak could show no smile or emotion. "Good, good! I vas 'oping not to offend. I did zhat von time... keeled a little dog. Zhought it vas a deer. But I know now, ja! Deer are beeg!" he exclaimed, speading his wings wide to better state his point. "Lamb iz good, ja, but zhe humans don' like vhen you eat 'round zhere place. Must take lamb somevhere else, or zhe geet angry. Zhe don' like ta share." Now the eagle shook his head in dissagreement with human ways. Of course, he was missing the whole point of why they were angry at him, but he didn't know that.

Scarlet Angel

She nodded. "Yes, I don’t get it ether." She said.
"A friend of mine almost got shot by a human when raiding a chicken coup." She shuddered. "Did you ever have a close run-in with humans?"

Zhener

"Oh, zhat's terrible!" he responded, widening his gleaming eyes. "Zhe humans caught me vith a tangle of vines... or somezhing." he went on to explain, speaking of a net. But not knowing it was called a net, he thought it was a tangle of vines. "Zhe humans had a lamb set by some bushes. I came down to eat, an' zhen... zhey fling zhe vines on me an' I can't geet avay! Shove me in leetle box for hours 'en hours... so loud!" he gave a heavy sigh and looked to Scarlet Angel. "You vill be my friend, ja?" he questioned suddenly.

S.A.

"Why, yes of course." She answered a bit startled. "Of course I’l be your friend." She said correcting herself sweetly. "If you will be mine." She added a bit mysteriously.

Zhener

He nodded his head, his eyes shining again happily, "Ja! Good, ve are friends zhen!" He looked skyward towards the sun, narrowing his eyes a moment against the blaring rays. "I must go now. My volv friends 'ave vhelps. Must vhatch for danger." The eagle looked back towards Scarlet Angel a moment, "I vill see you around, ja?" but without waiting for a much of a reply, he took off.

Scarlet Angel

"Goodbye." She said to the rapidly disappearing figure. "Goodbye."
