Napoleon

Yellow fur prickled uneasily, a bored twitch. The wind hissed, dragging the leaves of the trees with it. Some leaves landed on the lake below, but one landed on a cold wet nose. Napoleon sneezed, scaring the fish away that had just started to creep back over near him. The wolf huffed, annoyed, and shifted his wait, waiting still longer... for if the herons could do it, so could he.

*Fish*

The ice had thawed quite a bit around parts of the lake shore, getting the fish a bit more active and allowing for some 'fishing' to be done. But scattered here and there along the melting ice were perhaps a bit too many dead minnows, and perhaps a bit too many bits of feathers and skeletons of fishing birds. Death was carried faintly in the air and water... but it wasn't all that strong.

The larger fish; the adult pike, muskies, bass, and perch, where all still resting idly in the deeper parts of the lake until temperatures rose. But along the shore line were their fries, their babies. And of course, the countless minnows and bluegill.

A young rock bass with its striking red eyes and a head that was a forth of its body at this young stage in life, drifted a bit too near the shore. His senses seemed a bit dulled, for some reason. Maybe the cold. Maybe something else.... for what ever reasons, the young fish strayed so close to the shore that he was in Sammik's shadow, curious of the dark patch in the water. Mistaking if for cover. Soon, a second young bass joined him. Slightly larger, but neither over a foot long.

Napoleon

Napoleon stood silently, his yellow eyes focused on the small fish swimming in the shadow he cast on the water. They weren't much, but they were something he could eat. Waiting a little longer, he grew unbearably hungry so at last, Napoleon dove his head into the water and caught three of the fish, chewed a few times, and swalled them.
He wasn't content but at least he had something in his belly to keep his stomach from growling.
Deciding that fishing wasn't all it's cracked up to be, Napoleon retreated from the lake, perhaps to find someplace warmer and with food that doesn't take forever to catch.
