Hellcat

Hellcat was grazing along the lake’s banks, mostly whatever the cold weather hadn’t already killed. It was drizzling a little, the worse not yet occurring as the storm clouds gathered closer in the sky, and the mare held no wish to find shelter yet. The 16.2 hands tall young horse kept somewhat alert. Oddly she didn’t remember anything, other than her name and a black colt. The accident was on her mind though, somehow she had managed to trip over a fallen log, her right forecannon had caused her to trip. Hellcat had hit her crown against a rock and woken up to remember tripping and then nothing. Other than what was mentioned earlier, and that only caused her more confusion than anything else.

Her neck lowered back down to eat some more of the roots she dug up, her bald face briefly harder to see until she rose her head back up. Her blue eyes were warm and welcoming, her nature quite sweet when she was in the mood to be so. A few stallions had approached her, but neither had been to her liking so she had ran before they could herd her. One had been relentless in chasing her, and she still feared he was out there looking for her, she had a feeling he was a bachelor and was looking to make her his first herd mare. Twin ears twitched on her head as she searched the area around her before going back to eating a few more roots before she moved on. Her tail twitched to her side out of nervousness.

Pyro

Pyro was growing hungry. His earlier scavenging in forest had left his belly just as empty as it was when he awakened this grey day. He followed a path quarried by other inhabitants, hooves scrapping against the snow lazily. He hung his neck low, burdened by that shaggy ebony mane that looked too much for his vertebra. Winters always left Pyro looking ragged and unlike his dominant Thoroughbred blood. Even for his Paint genes, only a wild creature could look so resilient and fur-burdened. And, he truly was. A beast in his own rights, the last few years had been filled with defending himself, and others, from the tribulations of the wilderness. A few scars in tribute to the wolves and felines in the area marred his rich black coat. Yet, despite these flaws, the painted black stallion was magnificent. Underneath his shaggy winter coat lay flesh that rippled with muscle. Once the weather lessened and the vegetation returned, Pyro would be in prime condition. But right now, on a rumbling belly, he would just have cope with his haggard appearance, just like any other equine in the unforgiving valley.

Sliding down a rolling incline towards the lake, Pyro halted with flared nostrils. Breathing misting the frigid air, his senses tingled at the presence of another equine. It was rare for a mare to be on her own in this weather. It was hazardous, hell, even suicidal. His skin quivered as he caught sight of the mare. A chestnut, with the same bald face as he. And those blue eyes. He could see them from here. It couldn't be? Was it?

Heart leaping, Pyro caught a call in his throat. He was shocked to muteness. There had been a long period since he had seen his sister. No one knew what happened to her. And now, here she was. In the flesh.

Hellcat

Hellcat sensed the new presence more than her sensitive detectors hearing, smelling, or seeing him. Blue soul gates took in another horse’s form, a stallion, and she wasn’t sure if she should run or stay. Her gaze was on him as he moved down the incline before coming to a stop and stared at her. She would have been in a herd if she wasn’t so easily spooked by the rough treatment of the stallions that tried to herd her while they fought over her. Not being in a herd had taken a hold on her weight, her scavenging has been short and long in time due to predators and stallions.

The mare didn’t remember much but this mostly black titan seemed…familiar. Tentatively she bobbed her head a few times in his direction while taking in his scent before snorting. He was just staring at her and was silent which didn’t really make her scared, just a little wary. As if she was scared for him which felt even more odd. Ears flickering she watched him carefully while her hoof scraped some more snow away in search of roots. The fellow was ragged looking to her even though he seemed like a Thoroughbred. Strangely he had a bald face like her and his smell was familiar and comforted her, making her wonder again who he was. His coat held a few scars, more than what her chestnut colored one did.

Hellcat flicked her tail as she took a tentative step in his direction but that was it. It was obvious that she was wary that he would charge at her and force her away. However she felt like he wouldn’t hurt her yet her mind told her she didn’t know this stallion.

Pyro

Maybe he was mistaken. The way she didn't call out or greet him made Pyro feel uneasy. His stomach sunk a bit when her face did not show recognition towards her own twin brother. Pyro's ears twitched with disappointment. But there was no way this horse could be anyone other than Hellcat. Everything about her was an exact image of the filly Pyro had grown up with. Copper colored with a bald face. And those soft blue eyes that his mother always raved about when they were younger. She was exquisite. She was Hellcat.

His sides twitched as he gazed at her. How long before she ran off? He had to say something to show his friendliness before he lost her again. Pyro didn't want to lose Hellcat. But every fiber in his body couldn't muster the ability to call out. He was too awe-stricken to do so.

Finally, he stamped a hoof against the icy ground with a snort. "D-do you know who I am?" He broke the silence, his voice wavering with wariness. Did she? Or was Pyro going crazy these days, lost in the sorrow of losing his sister for good?
