Stallis & Sunderbahn

Trotting lightly down the beach, a pure-blooded border collie led his coyodog son, Sunderbahn. Sunderbahn was a touch smaller than his father and had more than just coyote in him. He was mostly dog, but terribly fierce and deadly in the fight. The two sat down, watching the brackish waves roll in and lap at the smooth, sepia rocks in front of their paws.

"So, they are really bigger than the cars?" Sunderbahn questioned, tilting his head to the side and gazing at his father.

Stallis nodded, smiling faintly, "Much bigger. I've even heard word that some... way out beyond where our eyes can reach... are bigger than human dens. The biggest creatures ever."

Sunderbahn turned his wild eyes to the waves now, nearly shaking with anticipation. He had never seen whales before.

Tyali

It wasn't long before one of the huge mammals showed up. A tall black dorsal fin cut up through the dark waters, followed by to two-toned head of a large male orca. He whistled a blew out a breath from his blowhole. "Ah, wolves! Or wait... no, you are no wolves, are you?" The whale said, gliding up so close on the shore that it seemed he'd be beached. But he wasn't. "I'm Tyali by the way; who are you?"

Stallis & Sunderbahn

Stallis stood up, gazing at the large creature. "I'm Stallis, and this is my son, Sunderbahn. And no, we are not wolves." The collie replied, dipping his head slightly. "I just came to show my son just how big you whales are."

Sunderbahn took a step back, flashing his fangs once and opening his eyes wide in surprise. But seeing his dad so calm, Sunderbahn relaxed just a bit and slid up beside his father, blinking wonderingly at the mammoth thing.

Tyali

Tyali nodded, "So I see. Well, it's nice to meet you then!" His dark, glistening eyes turned to Sunderbahn, "No need to be frightened Sunder, my pod doesn't eat dogs." The whale grinned, opening his jaws enough to reveal all his long, pointed teeth. "Is there anything you'd like to know about us?"

Stallis & Sunderbahn

Sunder gave a nervous laugh in response to Tyali's remark, "That's good to know." Now his mind raced, trying to think up a good question. "I've heard... I've heard that there are whales bigger than you far out in the waters. What's the biggest whale you've ever seen?"

Even Stallis listened intently now, because he had never actually herd from a whale about further out in the ocean.

Tyali

Tyali grinned again at this question, "Oh, whales bigger than you can imagine! There is one, called the Blue Whale. Longer than twenty of you wolves linded up snoot to tail. Far bigger than any orca. But you know what; we like to hunt those whales." He pointed out proudly, then added, "But not too much recently. There aren't that many of them. So now we hunt another whale, called the Gray Whale. They are smaller, but larger still than us."

Stallis & Sunderbahn

Both of them are shocked to hear, first hand, about such a creature. And also that the orcas hunt them! Greatly intruiged, Sunderbahn pipes up, "Sometime... would it be possible for my to see one of these creatures?" His mind was racing now, trying to imagine such a thing and what it would look like.

Tyali

Tyali nodded his giant head, sending large ripples of water gliding to the shore to break on the smooth rocks. "It's possible. I don't think we could get a Blue whale close enough, but the Gray whales... we could try. We hunt their calves mostly, but sometime we might be able to herd a mother or bull close enough for you to see them." He pointed out. "As I understand, you canines have good hearing. So we'll be whistling. Check around here often."
