Frightful

The peregrine soared high above the bay, scanning the shining waters for a fish. It wasn't normal for a peregrine, but oh well. She had watched osprey and eagles eat the fish, and their had been a shortage of game lately, so she thought maybe a fish wouldn't be so bad.

Frightful suddenly caught sight of a medium sized fish. She didn't have a clue what kind of fish, for she wasn't familiar with them, but it looked like a good fish.

She tucked her wings to her side, and began her rapid descent. As she dropped out of the sky, she reached 102mph. Right before she hit the water, she spread her wings and stretched out her talons. She hit the water and made a slight splash and rose. Her talons were empty.

Frightful was frustrated with herself. An experienced hunter, she should have got it. But even more than that, she knew that she had been right where the fish was. But when she grabbed for it, it wasn't there, but right in front of her. What she didn't know about was refraction. It would definately take practice. But for now, she was to tired and frustrated to go again.

Frightful banked toward the mountains and her aerie, eager to rest, but still empty-bellied.
