nox
She was too old to be playing around like this. Nox had always associated the existence of the eskers with puphood. The days her parents would bring her and her siblings to the watery terra, allowing them to toy around and splash in the nearby rivers and streams. This place had been a little source of heaven for the young, juvenile Nox. It was here she had killed the little blue jay, a proud trophy her father had praised her over. It was here, too, that her youngest brother had drown in the river. Nox's body rippled with the pondering of her memories, her black body quivering with a wave of differentiating emotions. Lifting her muzzle, Nox gazed into the endless blue sky. It was hot, and the spiking temperatures in the valley had driven Nox to the more cool area. She was going to the Bog -- not with the reptiles. And the forest was too fervent with insects, Nox figured this was the best option.
Treading across the gravelly terrain, Nox hopped onto a small boulder. Below, a shallow stream jutted through the area, and little minnows flitted about. Nox gazed at them with soft golden eyes, curious of their mindless dallies. How could one live so simply? Nox tilted her head lightly, expressing a dreamy sigh. If only life was as simplistic as that of a minnow. But, instead, Nox was trapped inside the life of a wolf in this valley. A life of turmoil and treachery. Nothing was for certain, and friends and family weren't true. If only she could be a minnow, too.
