Shasta/Mouse

The Saluki nearly dragged his owner along the streets. He was worked up over the aggressive teens at the bridge. Finally. They were home. Shasta still held the leather leash tight with her left hand, and unlocked the door with her right hand. Upon entering the house, Shasta took the leash off and Mouse rushed to his water bowl and took several big gulps, then pranced around by the back door. The young woman opened the door, letting the dog into the backyard. She walked away, to the living room.

But Mouse had his own plans. He knew very well what the wild was like, and he very much wanted to be a part of it. After a few unsuccessful attempts, the male cleared the fence and raced away, finally free.

Shasta was unaware of all of this, drinking iced tea and listening to the radio.
