Eseilenna Pike
The students' eyes were all fixed on the projector screen in room 553 at the university. The anatomy of a squid was being shown by the professor as he explained the various organs in the tentacled mollusk. It was 11:37 AM. Lecture ended at 11:45 AM (it started at 9:15 AM), with lab beginning at 1:00 PM. Later today, the professor said, the students would be dissecting a squid and a mussel, and drawing, labeling and classifying what they saw in their lab books.
Eseilenna always liked lab. She enjoyed dissecting the various animals, as well as using the microscope to view smaller organisms and recording them in her lab book.
With class ending soon, Eseilenna, or "Fish," as she was often called, would listen to the final points before heading off to the student center to eat and go over what she had learned. Many of the other students would likely take a lunch break as well. Though Eseilenna made more friends during lab, the student center was often the most social place.
Talia Wilks
Talia was taking notes from the professor as he almost finished his lecture. She wasn't too excitied about dissecting the squid and mussel like some of the other students, due to she had already done it before a few times. In fact she was thinking about skipping the class, and going to search for some fish to study. When the bell rang she gathered her things, ignoring most of the other students talk as she made her way to the cafeteria. Talia was a little shy, and so hadn't made any friends yet, which is why she found a secluded table to sit and eat her food. She popped the tab to her coke as she began to read the first page of her new book about fish.
Fish
The 19 year old human grabbed a bag of chips and a frappuccino, payed at the counter, then found her way to a table. It happened to be near Talia's table. She heard the pop from the coke, then a faint fizz. She opened the cap for her cold coffee drink with a click from the metal lid. She glanced at Talia briefly, recognizing her from the class. She didn't notice the book, though, for she would mention it if she had. Her phone beeped and vibrated. She reached into her pocket to find that somebody had left a text message. It was from the lady who sat near her in class.
Lab canceled. The professor had a family emergency. Pass it on.
"Fish" didn't know how convenient it was for Talia as she turned to tell the girl. "You're in zoology too, right?" She asked. "Lab is canceled. I guess something came up." While Fish had dissected her share of slimy things, she had actually been looking forward to lab, as always. Oh well. There's always next week.
Talia
Talia looked up when she saw the girl from her lab class sit at the table besides her. When she saw the girl glance at her she gave a shy smile before looking back down at her book. Upon hearing a voice talking to her she looked up to see Eseilenna looking at her. "Yeah." The word was barely out of her mouth before she continued on. "Great, now I can go check out the new fish at the island then." She was speaking more to herself than to the other girl. She marked her book before closing it so that the title was see able. "The Inspired Aquarium." Talia was planning on leaving as soon as she finished her coke.
Eseilenna
Lenna took another sip of her frappuccino, and soon finished off her bag of chips. "Fish, huh?" She said with a smile. "You're a fish person too?" The girl crumbled up the empty chip bag to throw it away later. "I'm Lenna Pike, but my friends call me Fish." She disliked her full name. It was just too unusual.
She noticed the book Talia was reading. "I've got that book somewhere at home too." She had read many books about fish and aquariums. She especially liked angelfish. Their colors were just so beautiful, and they looked so elegant. "I think I heard about some exotic fish on an island around here somewhere..." She would love to tag along, but she wouldn't go unless she was invited.
