Adalai
The pound was noisy today. The whines and squeals of what seemed to be hundreds of dogs rang in and out of each of the cages. It's so loud! the fawn Pit Bull thought to herself as she was marched down an aisle with a human holding firmly onto her leash. She briefly glanced at each dog in passing, some uncaring, other barking, and a few even challenging her as they lunged at their door. She would occasionally flash her own fangs, lifting her tail stiffly in the air as she walked past.
Her quarantine period had ended and she was found fit for adoption. They thought she must have come from someone who really took care of their dogs, as she was in excellent condition as far as her health went. She was found wandering the streets, so she would have been eating garbage for the last few days, and a layer of dirt had formed. After a bath, she looked good as new. She appeared to have mild dog aggression at least, but so far hadn't started anything herself. They found her to be quite sweet towards people. Now she was being taken to a cage out front, where anyone interested would be able to view her.
As she settled down into her new 'home', she first looked at a lone toy on the floor, then her food and water bowls. She enthusiastically lapped up some of the water and then spun around to look out through the bars. She sighed heavily as she sat back on her hindquarters. A paper read her name, Adalai, and that she was looking for a home. She sure didn't look too happy sitting in that cage.
Matt Anderson
Matt really didn't need another dog... He really didn't. Though, he couldn't help but to make trips to the local animal shelter here quite often. Sure, he had liked many of the dogs he had seen here but none of them had really caught his eye. That or they didn't get along well with his own dogs. And that was a big deal to him. He could deal with some growling and such at first but not another dog wanting to kill his own. Speaking of his own dogs, Maddox who was his male Pit Bull sat on the passenger seat of his pick up. The canine's head was out the window as they drove down the road.
When they reached the dog pound he got out, leaving the windows down so that Maddox would stay cool. He knew the dog wouldn't try to jump out of the truck. He then walked inside and looked up the aisles of dogs within the cages. He hated to see any dog like this, they were meant to be allowed to run and to be loved like part of the family. Yes, Matt was a big softy when it came to his dogs. As he walked along something caught his eye, the canine was a full blooded American Pit Bull Terrier. To this a smile came to Matt's lips. He knelt down at the cage after looking at her name card. Well hello, Adalai. You are a pretty girl! He wanted to make sure she was friendly, since many they got here were not either that or they were extremely dog aggressive. It seemed there was a lot of dog fighters in this area and they ended up with most dogs like her, and Matt was determined that wouldn't happen. He placed a hand against the bars for her to sniff.
Adalai
Adalai didn't see too many humans come through, and if she did, they didn't stop to check her over. Instead, most seemed to ignore her. It saddened her that no one wanted to come over to say hi or even attempt to give her a pat through the bars. Her ears settled back against her head in near anguish as once again, another human passed by. She would have rather stayed in the back where at least she couldn't see everyone ignoring her.
Feeling boredom finally settle on her shoulders, Adalai dropped to the cold hard ground below with a very audible grunt. She placed her head on her fore legs and reflected on the day. Then her mind drifted to her aching body, with limbs that felt the need to stretch into a run. Her eyelids grew heavy. She was almost asleep when she heard the door open once again. She didn't bother standing, though, choosing to only lift her head.
A man was walking in. She thought he was about to walk past her when she realized that no, he was coming towards her! Perking up, she got to her paws just as he knelt down in front of her cage. He spoke her name, causing her floppy ears to twitch forward. When he placed his hand against the bars, she began to enthusiastically sniff it. She then tried to squeeze her wet black nose through the bars and lick his hand, before noticing that the metal was quite cold. Take me with you! she wanted to say, but all that came out of her mouth were barks.
