Gunther
The large dog had once again been stashed into one of the numerous cages of the pound. He was a German Shepherd, nearly all black in color save for some dark brown areas, with a very lean and evidently strong body. Oddly enough, there was a small cut on his wet nose, which was colored a deep red as though it had recently been bleeding. It happened earlier when he was allowed outside for some fresh air. A small bird somehow managed to latch on, leaving him with a nice little cut. The pound workers had it cleaned up for him so it was barely noticeable now. It was there though, and it sorta stung.
Gunther sat upright in his cage. He appeared tall and alert as he searched the room with his dark cinnamon eyes. His large ears would flick at every noise. His mind would wander, mostly to wonder why his handler left him here. He used to have a job as a police dog yet it seemed now that he was out of luck in that department.
Heaving a long sigh, he continued to absentmindedly watch as humans passed by his cage. Those who took the time to notice him probably thought of him as rather intimidating; however, he was a good dog. No one seemed to want to even give him a chance. Meanwhile, a lone note on his cage door read:
Gunther
German Shepherd Dog
Calm and obedient

Morgan was one to come to the pound as soon as she herd there was one. She had to leave her four dogs behind in the move with her sister. Her parents had promised to take care of them so she had agreed to move with her sister. She was now walking down the rows of dogs. She suddenly stopped at Gunthers cage. She opened the cage after asking if she could go in. She closed it behind her and sat in front of the door. She held her hand out to see what he would do.
Gunther
Gunther continued to stare at everyone as they walked by. A couple little kids noticed him and stopped to poke their little fingers at the cage which led to them being promptly pulled away by a parent. He would simply sniff at their hands, easily recognizing them as baby humans. When they would leave, he'd choose another human to watch. That was when his cinnamon eyes landed on one in particular. She was actually looking at him as well. This was odd. She was actually coming into his cage and she didn't even look like a pound worker. He tilted his head as he looked at her. She came right on in and sat in front of the door, his only way out. This sort of unnerved him. He inched backwards a bit but kept his eyes on her, ready to give any cues if she should prove threatening to him. Now a hand was coming his way. He reached out with his neck to sniff at it, but nothing more. He then began staring at her with an expectant gaze. He wanted to get up and check her out but he was unsure. Was she here to give him food and water? A toy? Or was she simply here to keep him company?

Morgan smiled getting to her knees. She had closed the cage door. She looked at him, she then pulled a treat out of her skinny jeans pocket. She held it out to him and with the other hand reached to pet him. She knew the German shepard wouldn't hurt her. She had assumed by the way he was well fed and looked strong and healthy that he had been a police dog. She looked him right in the eyes. Smiling. She reached to pet him behind the ear. She would give anything to have a dog like Gunther. She continued to kneel and pet him.
Gunther
Gunther kept his eyes on her. He seemed entirely motionless except for the gentle heaving of his pelt as he breathed. He took in her scent through his flaring nostrils. It was decided that this girl seemed safe enough. His attention was all on her as he continued to take her scent in, which consisted of lots of different things. He could practically get a chapter of her life story through mere scent alone. He then pulled back when she looked him in the eyes and he returned the gaze. A smile was typically a good thing but one could never be too sure. He was pretty good at reading the humans-- odd as they may be.
He felt her hand rub against the back of his ears causing him to lean into it. Normally he wouldn't be so accepting of a strange human but he could sense no immediate danger. Besides, most of the workers had little time to show him any sort of affection. Those dark eyes were still locked onto her, though. He was growing impatient. Giving a gruff rumble he stood to full height and then stepped forward, pushing his head into her, as though to try and topple her over.

Morgan sat against the cage door as he pushed his head into her. She looked at him and then the worker standing next to the door. She smiled ''I would like to take him home, with me'' she said. The worker nodded and through the cage door she handed her a rope. She slipped it over Gunthers head, if he would let her. She then led him out of the kennel and down the rows of cages. She came to a stop at the desk to fill some paper work out.
After, she led him out and to the truck. She opened the door and let him in. Going around to the drivers, she got in and started the engine. She started off slow, pulling out of the parking lot and started down the road to Down town. Where her house was. And Gunther's new home.
Gunther
Two cinnamon eyes widened briefly as the girl slid the rope over his head and around his neck. He was a little unsure of it at first but once he found it didn't bother him, he was fine. He felt his heart flutter. He was getting out of here! Out of this canine prison which contained him. He only needed to feel a gentle tug to get going as he followed the girl out of the cage and then down the row to the desk. He waited as she filled out some of the paper work out, eyes scanning the rest of the pound that hadn't been in his view. The barks of other dogs filled his ears. Needless to say he was glad he wasn't any of them.
Finally they were walking out of the building and towards a truck. His tail waved behind him as it moved along with his quick strides. His new owner opened the truck door, allowing him to jump up inside which he did so with little difficulty. His eyes now followed her as she walked around to get in on the drivers side. He stayed where he landed when he got inside-- the far passenger side, where he was now peering out the front window curiously. Where were they headed? To his new home, probably. Bracing himself against the movement of the vehicle, he looked behind him as the pound grew further and further out of view.
