Kody

A small bell sounded at the door, a signal that someone had entered. In walked a tall young man holding tightly onto a leash. He seemed to struggle a bit with whatever was on the other end of it. He gave one final tug to drag the creature, a canine into the building. He lead his pet to the desk where he spoke to one of the pound workers. "I'm here to drop my dog off," the man stated as he rested an arm on the top of the desk. His other arm was outstretched as he held the leash.

The worker nodded and handed him a paper. Here the owner wrote down some things. Another worker soon appeared to take the dog away. They had no room in the back of the building so he was taken to a small cage towards the rear of the room. Soon enough the previous owner and the workers were finished and the man headed out the door, without so much as a final glance. In fact, he showed next to no emotion.

Later, the same worker appeared a the cage again. He put up a piece of paper on the front.
Kody
German Shepherd mix

That was all that was included. He was actually a wolf dog, but they had decided to leave that part out. The truth could very well help his chances of being adopted, but at the same time might hinder his chances. They needed this space for the next animal that came along. With the reputation of the some of the wild animals in the valley, they figured it best.

Kody did appear sort of wolfish and one could especially see it in his eyes, which were now full of uncertainty and a touch of fear. They darted around the room as he huddled back in the corner of his cage. He didn't know where he was and it worried him. He curled up with his bushy tail over his muzzle and sighed. The sounds of other canines ringed in his ears. Maybe if he didn't make any sudden movements, no one would notice him back here.

Diva

Diva had been here for far too long. Well, it had actually been only a few weeks but for her this was far too long indeed. You see, Diva had previously been a champion show dog. That is until her mistress was killed by a drunk driver. So, she had lost her mistress and her comfortable living arrangements all in one swipe. There was a look of disgust in her chocolate brown eyes and etched onto her elegant facial features as she watched the new man walk in jerking on the leash. Thats when she saw the kennel workers and she began to pitch a fit. Loud barks escaped her muzzle in an almost feverish pitch. This place was filthy and she was in the need of a good bath and grooming. She could already feel the once beautiful locks of silky fur that hung from her slender frame becoming tangled and dirty. She hated it. Though, no one paid her any mind and soon she was left alone after the other dog was placed in the cage beside her.

You know you don't have to look so scared, it's not like they are going to eat you here or something.

She spoke bluntly but in a beautiful tone. Her elegant face was pointed towards the wolf dog as she waited for whatever response he might have.

Kody

The wolf dog's eyelids fluttered. He was so tired from the days events. He could feel them becoming heavier and heavier. He couldn't sleep, though. Not now. He didn't trust anyone here, whether canine or human. His light brown eyes still darted here and there, almost as if searching for something. Maybe for a way out. Suddenly he felt something odd in his stomach. Bloated was probably the feeling. He came to the realization that he was absolutely starving. He looked around his cage. There was a toy and some newspaper on the bottom. Then he saw the bowls. One contained kibble and the other held some rather dirty water. He didn't care, though.

He stood and immediately shoved his muzzle into the bowl of food, chewing the small pieces with a set of powerful jaws. That's when the voice reached him, startling him and causing him to jump. He emitted something not far from a hiss as he looked at the source. There was another dog in the next cage. She was speaking to him of all canines.

He stared at her, dumbfounded. "I am aware of that," his voice came out as he regained composure as best as he could. He had no idea where he was, but she certainly didn't appear to be the sort of dog that would typically be in here. "Who are you?" he inquired, sitting lightly on his furry haunches. He wondered how long she'd been stuck in this place.

Diva

Diva definitely wasn’t the type of dog that one would usually see in a place like this. With a pedigree like hers and her nearly perfect conformation, she could fetch a very large sum if she had been sold instead of just brought here. But after being left at the house for a while after her master’s death, no one wanted to deal with the high maintenance pooch that was once her master’s most prized possession. No one in her master’s family really shared her love for dogs and since she had no children, there was really no one to pass her beloved pet down to. So, she was left for animal control to deal with. They had all of her papers but it didn’t seem to matter because still here she sat. She hated this place and made every effort to make these humans understand just how valuable she really was every time one entered. Yet, it was to no avail… And none of the other canines seemed to want to associate with her. It was a sad situation.

Then there was this male. As she had spoken, she saw him jump. This had not meant to be her intention. She was actually trying to be reassuring in her own way. Fear wasn’t something that she had ever known and even though she was very spoiled, she didn’t completely disregard all others. That was what had driven her to speak to this hybrid. He responded, saying he was aware of that and she responded. Obviously not, you just about jumped out of your skin a second ago. She wasn’t meaning to be rude but she lacked the social skills that came from being around other dogs on a normal basis. Then he asked who she was and she tossed her head slightly, almost as a preppy girl would as she was asked something that she thought everyone should know. Well, my call name is Diva so we will just go with that. Who are you? In honesty, she expected everyone to know who she was… But it seemed that wasn’t the case. She sighed at the realization and lowered herself to lay on the filthy concrete floor, resting her head on her paws as she waited for a response.

Kody

Kody was naturally a jumpy canine. Not only that, but he was poorly socialized early on in his life. His breeder had, for the most part only been in the business for the money. Selling wolf mixes of all things-- a possibly dangerous endeavor, especially when buyers found they simply could not handle them. As far as his breeder went, he knew people would pay for their exotic little wolfdogs. Kody was just another one of those stories that didn't have a very happy ending. By someone who only wanted him as a mere status symbol, he was abandoned.

The wolfdog could only stare at her with his unnerving gaze as she tossed her head. He didn't know what she wanted or why she was here but he knew that the humans had probably made a mistake in putting him next to her. He sighed when she began speaking again. She asked for his name. "Kody," he huffed, his voice emerging gruffly. He'd rather be somewhere else. Suddenly he felt the need to stretch his legs but that was not about to be remedied any time soon while in this cage. "I'm in here because my human left me here. So what's your excuse?" he asked her, his face almost expressionless. He might as well try to make the most of this conversation if he was to be in here. Better to make friends than foes, especially if you're condemned to sit by them. What else was there to do? His light eyes grazed over the dusty old toy, uninterested.

Diva

Diva was very different from this wolf dog. She was born in amazing conditions from a breeding that had been planned months in advance. Her breeder had reputable and both of her parents had been retired show dogs themselves, the best of their breed. So, of course she had been born with amazing conformation and attitude that wouldn’t stop. She was the obvious pick of the litter from the get go. She had been sold for a high profit and had gone to an amazing home with a middle aged woman. All through her career she had the best care, grooming, and handlers. Fear was something that was never even thought of by this girl; she had never been struck or received any harsh punishments. She had been living the life any canine would want. Then it all ended so abruptly.

She had been thinking of the past after asking the other canine who he was. She wondered where she had gone wrong to end up here. His words brought her back from these thoughts and she looked back to the wolf dog. He spoke a single word, Kody. She assumed this was his name, which was what she had asked him for, after all. She only nodded. Then the wolf dog spoke once more. He said he was here because his owner had abandoned him here and asked what her excuse was. She thought for a moment and then spoke with a sigh. My owner died. She spoke simply and there was obvious sadness in her tones. Once again she laid her head back on her front limbs, sadness etched in her chocolate eyes.

Kody

It was interesting how two entirely different canines could somehow end up in one single place together. Kody was no high maintenance dog by any means. He was not very expectant of his human or humans in general. They gave him food, water and a place to lay-- all things that he felt he could do on his own if need be. He may not have the greatest conditions but they were typically livable.

By now he knew this dog was very different from himself. It was evident in almost everything about her, from her words to her appearance. She didn't seem to fit here and he admittedly found it intriguing. If she can't get out of here, how could he expect to ever get out? When she stated her owner died it made sense. Now no one wanted her. He gave a gruff "Huh," before plopping restlessly on the floor. He could tell that it made her sad but he had no words of reassurance to offer her. He never bonded with either of his 'owners' so he couldn't even relate. He hadn't met a single two-legged that was truly worth his time; that had something to really offer him. They had been mere caretakers. "So, ever think of busting out of this prison?" he asked her. He himself was a bit of an escape artist but it was quite apparent that he wouldn't be going anywhere right now.

Diva

Diva lay there on the floor of this filthy little prison that was made entirely of concrete and chain link fences. A sigh escaped her vocals as he uttered a simple huh. She was unsure how to respond to this. In honesty she hadn’t known what to expect when it came to how this wolf dog would react to her statement. So, she wasn’t upset when he showed her no sympathy. Instead she just watched as the other canine plopped down on the concrete on the other side of the chain link wall that separated them. Then he spoke once more.

This time he asked her if she had ever thought of busting out of this place. She lifted her head to regard him momentarily before she shook her head, causing her long ears to flap gently. Oh, I would never leave someplace the humans put me. Who would feed me if I ran away? And who would brush me and clip my nails? Who would love me? Sure, she was rambling… What could one expect, though? She had lost everything she had known and he was the first other living organism to give her the time of day.

Kody

Kody was unaware of his nonchalance for the most part. He had grown up alone save for a couple siblings so the idea of real companionship was quite foreign to him. He didn't really have 'dog skills' when it came to others. He simply continued to lay on that cold hard floor. Then, what was that? A fly had landed on his nose, causing him to snort. He sighed and rested his bottom jaw on the floor. There was no escaping it. He was completely at the mercy of whatever pests wanted to come into his cage. His cage-- it had a nice sound to it. It still didn't make him care to stick around.

He listened silently as she began rambling, light eyes staring straight head. There was a human, then another, and another... When she was finished he started. "I would jump at the chance," he said in regard to where the humans put him. "You don't need them. Food is abundant out there. They toss it like it's garbage. Your fur would be the least of your worries and your nails would wear on their own." he stated, emitting a light chuckle. She was an odd character indeed. A real pampered pooch by the sound of it, from a life that he would never know. "Humans are mere caretakers." He gave a nod. That was what humans were.

Diva

Diva had never been without her human for as long as she could remember. To say she was a little panicky about this would be correct. She didn’t like the feeling of not having one specific person to care for her and having no one to trust. She thoroughly depended on having someone to trust in her life and now she had no one. Yes, she was very panicky about this fact. To prevent herself from pacing and whimpering at this fact, she remained lying on the ground and kept her head down. She heard his response and how he said that she could find any of those things out in the wild. A quick shake of her head was given.

No, I would surely die. It was a statement that she thoroughly believed. He went on to say that humans were merely care givers to them and nothing more. She sighed before she spoke once more. My owner was more than just a caregiver, she was my best friend. Her words were spoken longingly, she deeply longed to have a friend again, one that would never leave her and that she could once more devote herself to. But, from the looks of things no one was coming. Why does no one want me anymore? Was I bad? She mumbled the question half under her breath, maybe he wouldn’t even hear her.

Kody

Kody had honestly never been on his own before. Well, not officially. He couldn't count the number of times he had escaped from his human only to wander the streets. He knew he could handle it. The life came with a lot of dangers but there were also plenty of good things. He would be his own boss; his own caretaker. This sense of independence overwhelmed him. He just didn't understand this dependence that other dogs had on their humans.

He looked at her. A human a best friend? He must have gotten the short end of the stick or something when he was born. It almost made him laugh. How could their lives have been so opposite? He could detect the longing in her voice. Then she mumbled something which his sensitive ears picked up. "The humans don't need a reason," he spoke, not giving any hint of emotion in his voice. He said it like it was just something casual. "I'll be getting out of here. I don't know when but I will." He smirked, showing his wolfy teeth only slightly between his jaws. Then maybe no one would come for him as it was obvious no one cared for him here either.

Glace Rite

Glace was you regular 19 year old who loves dogs and animals really. She had driven to the dog pound in search of a few dogs. She parked and turned the engine off. She walked up to the door and opened it. She was let into the cage room to look at the dogs. She walked down the rows of dogs, looking at each one. She stopped at the two dogs that intrested her one Kody. Which she knew the german shepard mix was german shepard/wolf mix. The other was Diva who she thought would be very good dog. She thought both would be very good dogs. She opened Kody's cage first and went in closing the cage door behind her. She sat near Diva's cage while in Kody's cage. She held her hands out to both of them and waited for their reaction.

Kody

Kody was still waiting for a reply from Diva when suddenly a human girl showed up outside his cage. He lifted his head, almost startled you could say, to stare at her with his wolfish eyes. Why was she looking at him like that? He didn't want to believe that he was going to go home with another human-- not after his quick planning. Being cooped up in this place could give a dog some time to think. His cold hard stare now turned into something of a glare. He didn't know what she planned on accomplishing here but he didn't enjoy the looks that she was giving him. Standing out there staring him down with a face he simply couldn't understand. His ears flickered outwards like a plane had landed on his head.

She was now stepping into his cage. At this, he backed off to the far edge. He showed no signs of aggression but it was obvious that her presence made him uncomfortable. She was in his territory and it unnerved him to say the least. He watched closely as she held her hand out for him but he did not make any effort to return the action.

Glace Rite

Glace watched him. As he backed up she got up and moved towards the cage door. Not going out. But getting him used to her presence. She didnt do anything this time. She just sat and looked at him and then at the floor. She never made eye contact. She just looked away when she noticed him looking at her. She was doing all this to gain trust and let him feel okay in her presence only that.

Diva

Diva wasn't quite sure how to respond to this wolf dog. He acted like he didn't need the humans at all but she wondered if he had actually ever lived without them to feed him. Maybe he had, but she kind of doubted it. She didn't think many dogs really could make it without the humans unless they had been born in the wild. She didn't state that, though.

She really didn't have time to reply any way because a human was approaching the cage that Kody was in. Diva immediately stood up from where she was laying. She moved towards the barrier between their cages and began to rub against the metal and barking every now and again, her breed has often been said to have feline-like qualities and Diva was showing that. She whimpered as she saw the human paid her no mind and only watched Kody. Though she continued to try to get the human's attention.

Glace Rite

Glace immediately looked over at Diva as soon as she saw her trying to get her attention. She got up. Going out of the cage and closing the door. She opened Diva's door and went in, closing it behind her. She crouched down and held her hand out to her.

Kody

Kody didn't budge from his spot. He wasn't even paying attention to Diva yet inside his mind he wished the human would go and look at her instead. He stared at her cautiously, carefully, watching as she backed away to the door. His ears pricked forward at this. That and she wouldn't look directly at him anymore. He was now growing curious, but she was already leaving his cage. Comfortable now that she was out of his range, he moved forward a bit and watched as she entered Diva's cage instead. Perhaps it would be Diva's lucky day. He kept his large ears forward as he stared at the dog and human, wondering what was going on.

Diva

Diva was overjoyed, to say the least, when she saw the human leaving Kody's cage and moving to her's. Though, she didn't want to ruin Kody's chances of finding a home, she was the main thing on her mind right noe. She wanted out of this prison and back into a home where she could be a good dog once again. She couldn't show anyone how good of a girl she was from this cage and no one appreciated her here. Once the girl knelt down in her cage and held her hand out Diva immediately approached her. Her tail wagged so quick that her whole large body wagged along with it. She quickly sniffed the woman and began to lick her hands, barking excitedly from time to time.

Glace Rite

Glace smiled. She petted Diva. She then looked over at Kody and back to Diva. She smiled and petted behind her ears. She knew one of them would go home with her. She just had to pick. She would probably pick both. She looked at Diva. She looked good. She would probably end up picking Diva but coming back or helping out fostering Kody. She looked down at Diva. She continued to pet her and look her over.

Diva

Diva sat down and pawed gently at Glace as she stopped petting her long enough to glance over at Kody. It had been so long since Diva had someone to pay attention to her. She was literally soaking up the attention. Once the woman began to pet her once more, she lowered her elegant head to rest upon the woman's lap. Her tail wagged fiercely.

Glace Rite

Glace smiled. She got up and called one of the workers over, who gave her paperwork. She filled it out and handed it back to him. She grabed one of the rope leashes and slipped it on her. She led her out and out the door
