After an eight minute drive, the dog catcher's van pulled into the gravel parking lot of the Dog Pound. He was still limping as he got out of the vehicle, and stopped to bend over and examine the bite wound to his leg, which consisted of a number of puncture wounds through his jeans, but thankfully hadn't bled much. Deciding that the wound wasn't as bad as he originally thought, though it certainly hurt, the man walked around to the back of the van, took up the noose pole, and angled it in through the side of the cage door where Frost Rose was trapped in to try and get the loop around her neck once more.
Frost Rose
She let him slip the loop around her neck and waited for him to open the cage.As she did she looked up at him.She remembered the time when she was a pup.It was light outside and she and a human were outside.No.More than one, four. She was laying at a girl's feet and wagging her tail. She then looked at the human she realized her tail was wagging she stopped and pinned her ears back showing she wanted out and to be out of the van and the cage. She looked at him her eyes showed tiredness from the struggles to get away. She waited for him to take her out.
*Humans* & Chumley
The noose tightened around her neck to ensure that she wouldn't be getting away. Once it was secured, he opened the caged and hauled her out, though not before noticing the way her tail wagged a little. It surprised the man, and made him wonder if this canine had previous human contact? Unfortunately for Frost Rose, this particular human wasn't one to be compassionate towards her, especially after getting bitten, so he ignored the gesture and went on to lead her away from the van and towards the building where he would hand her over to the workers at the Dog Pound.
"Ahh, now you look all wolf." Those words came from a mostly black cat, with a splash of white on his chest, tail tip, and paws. The feline was one of the resident cats at the Pound, one that was a owned by one of the employees here, and thus was allowed to wonder freely over the premises.
Frost Rose
She looked at where she had bitten him and sniffed it before looking up at him.Her eyes said she was sorry but she was sorry her tail swished back and fourth. As she saw the cat she growled ''shut up stupid cat i wouldnt be here if it wasnt for a different cat that i killed and ate,so back off'' she barked and growled at the cat trying to get out of the noose loop and trying to get towards the cat.She hated them, cats that was.She growled again and tried to get towards the cat snapping her jaws at the cat she walked more forward with the human.
*Humans* & Chumley
Chumley sat smugly a few yards away, tail curled around his front paws. Living here at the Dog Pound meant that he dealt with vicious canines on a daily basis, so it was difficult to arouse fear in the tom cat. Now, if Frost Rose happened to break free of the catch pole, well... then it'd be a different story Chumely knew, and he'd have to high-tail it up the nearest tree to keep himself from being eaten, and he had done that more times than he'd like to admit. But for now, he looked back at the wolf as he lifted a paw to lazily groom it, "Keep up that vicious attitude, and those humans will kill you too."
The man wasn't sure what to make of Frost's submissive, almost apologetic behavior, but the woman who was walking out of the building to greet them saw it as a positive sign. "Picked this one up along Jefferson Street. It reportedly mauled someone's cat, and harassed another's dog. Several people reported aggressive behavior from it." The man started off, and his words were backed up not only by the bite wound to his leg, but the way that Frost Rose lunged and growled at Chumley. The woman nodded and observed the wolf before crouching down a few feet in front of her to see how Frost would react, "Looks like we've got a girl here, and it's quite possible she's all wolf, or a very high-percentage hybrid. There's a chance the Wolf Center might take her, or Mr. Henton, but... it's a tough call. She certainly can't be released again, if she's habituated to humans."
Frost Rose
She followed reluctantly after her barking and snarling her tail wagged at the sight of more humans. When she realized it was wagging she sat down and made it stop wagging she was a hybrid only some dog in her but it was husky that was and the rest was wolf. She looked at the cat ''then i wont keep it up''she said and looked at the woman that crouched down and she got up and tried to walk slowly towards her but Frost's tail was wagging as if she wanted to be near the woman she looked at the man to let her near her.She then waited her tail was wagging and she knew it was she then went over to the man and sniffed his wound that he got from her and licked it but then backed up after she tasted the bitterness on the jeans. She then turned her attention back to the woman her tail wagging she tried to near her again to let her pet her.Of course all the viciousness she had done was from the wolf part in her and the niceness was from the husky but her bite wasnt worse then what she felt about humans.
*Humans* & Others
A smile stretched across the woman's face, bringing about a few wrinkles at the corners of her eyes and mouth that highlighted her older age compared to the man. "There we are, you've got some sweetness in you yet." The woman didn't push her luck by trying to pet Frost Rose, only because the hybrid had proved aggressive towards humans, but she did crouch quietly and hold her hand out for the canine to sniff at on her own terms. She was pleased with the reaction she got, and how tamely Frost Rose reacted. Not only that, but she gave the man's leg a lick, which reinforced the idea that Frost might have acted out of defense or fear to the dog catcher, rather than blatant human aggression. The wagging tail and Frost's interest in the both of them was a positive sign, although the bite wound to the man's leg... that was a definite issue. "We'll take her in and put her in a kennel for the time being, and see how her attitude settles."
The woman stood up now and headed back through the building and down a a row of cages. "Lets put her in this one, and I'll have one of the girls get her some food and water." One of the kennels was opened, and the man used the noose-pole to try and guide Frost Rose inside of it. The kennel was of a decent size, with a concrete floor and towel in one corner for her to lay on. In the kennel next to her, a large shaggy dog was laying at the end of the kennel and watching her curiously.
Frost Rose
Her tail kept wagging as she was guided to a row of cages. She looked up at the man her tail still wagging and she gave a little growl at the cage but she still went in.She then sniffed around some and looked at the shaggy dog next to her kennel. She smiled a little and looked back at the woman and the man looking at the noose pole and growling a little before sitting right in front of the kennel door her tail wagging as she got up.She went to the side where the shaggy dog was ''im Frost Rose but call me Frost whats you name''she asked the dog
*Humans & Dog*
The kennel was closed as soon as Frost Rose was put in it, and the noose removed from around her neck. A latch kept the door securely locked. Once she was safely enclosed, both the man and the woman walked away down the hall to fill out a few papers regarding Frost's capture, leaving her and the shaggy dog to talk. The big dog was mostly black in color, with some light brown and white thrown in to contrast his oily black coat. "Buckley. That's what my humans called me." His big broad face carried a content, calm expression, as if he wasn't the least bit bothered by being in this facility. "I got lost from my masters while we were taking a long drive through the country, and I'm waiting for them to find me. How about you?"
Frost Rose
She looked at him ''Buckley,im sorry to hear you got lost. For me im free wondered here to this city in search of a forest and havent found one but when i was a pup i had two-legs or what you call humans til they left and dog catchers came and they caught my family but i escaped and now i despise them but what happened back there was the husky part in me i was born looking like a husky but now i look like a wolf and i dont despise humans when they dont try to capture me'' she said looking at him she laid down right where she was looking at him her tail notmoving
Buckley
The big dog listened attentive to her story with his floppy ears perked up at the bases. His expression was a sympathetic one, but also was warm and hopeful, "So you've lived in both worlds. With humans and in the wild... that must be quite the experience. Do you want to return to the wild, or find a new human family?" Buckley questioned as if Frost Rose had a choice in the matter. As it was, they were both at the mercy of the humans, and once it was discovered that Frost Rose was part husky, it wasn't like that she'd be set free.
Frost Rose
She looked at him. ''i havent really thought of that'' she said. She thought for a moment. ''I would rather find a family again a nice home ones that would take care of me. So i could repay them by being the best i could for them and maybe find someone to love like a friend'' she said looking at her paws. She knew it wasnt likely for her to be set free again after they figured out that she had husky in her.
Buckley & Humans
"Keep up hope, I'm sure you'll find a nice family. I know mine will return any day now." The shaggy dog replied encouragingly, and sounded entirely confident and assuring in his words, fully expecting that his own owners would be walking down the corridor any day now to pick him up. Before he could say anything else, the thump of approaching human feet caused Buckley's ears to perk up.
The young man that was walking towards Rose's kennel had a large carrying tray in one hand, and a jug of water in the other. After maneuvering the water underneath his arm, he unlatched Frost Rose's cage and attempted to step inside and close it behind him, before she could get out - it was time to give her food and water, and to see if he could get a sample of blood to test.
Frost Rose
She smiled. When she herd the footsteps she turned around and looked at the man. Her tail wagging above her back as a husky's tail would do. She stepped back as the man came in her tail still wagging. She jumped up on her hind legs balancing on them while she tried to see what was in the metal tray. She fell back on all fours eager to eat and drink she backed up more looking up at the man. She barked that was more of a whine-bark looking up at him. She wagged her tail so eager to eat and drink. She looked up more her eyes looked at the man pleadingly for the water and food. She waited for him to put it down or put it in the bowls by the cage door.
*Humans* & Others
The young man had been alert for any signs of aggression from the hybrid, and was ready to draw back the second she showed any indication of an attack. Seeing that Frost Rose was doing the exact opposite, with a wagging tail and an eager whining-bark, the shelter volunteer stepped entirely into the kennel and closed the door behind him. "You're not such a bad girl, are you? Probably just frightened out there. Okay okay, easy does it-" He laughed when she reared up to see what was in the tray, and soon set down the bowls, filling one with food and one with water. He then stepped back and crouched down, letting her eat and drink as she pleased, before he'd attempt to get a blood sample.
Frost Rose
She wagged her tail and looked in the bowl. Her tail wagged back and fourth as she ate, and drank the water. She looked at him and moved towards his hand rubbing her head on his hand as she walked rubbing her side on his hand. She wanted to be petted, to feel love again from a human. She wagged her tail more and looked at him she licked his chin and wagged her tail again
*Humans* & Others
He watched and listened for any signs of aggression from the hybrid while she ate, again ready to react in case she tried to attack or get defensive over the dog kibble. The man didn't hear so much as a growl from her, thankfully. In fact, she was nuzzling up to him after finishing her food, and he was laughing lightly and scrubbing her under the chin and behind her ears. "What a lover you are." The man spent a few moments simply petting Frost Rose before he reached for one of her front legs and tried to hold it in front of him. "You're probably not going to like this next part, but it'll be quick, I promise." Before he every attempted to stick the needle in her leg to draw the blood, he first needed to make sure she was alright with him holding her limb up like this.
Frost Rose
Frost kept wagging her tail as he petted her. She knew what he was going to do but didnt care. She was getting attention and thats what she wanted. She put her paw on his leg and wagged her tail. This was the most attention she had gotten since before she ran away from her humans. She howled a little of her happiness. She didnt like this place but getting attention was what she liked really.
*Humans* & Others
The man briefly debated putting a muzzle on Frost Rose, just in case she reacted badly to the needle, but so far he'd gotten no sign from her that suggested an aggressive reaction. "Okay, girl... here we go." He gave her a thorough scratching around the ruff, offering the hybrid a bit of extra attention before he took the needle and a small vial from his bin, and deftly inserted it into her leg. She'd feel only a small prick of pain, and to distract her from that, the man was talking sweetly to her all the while, "That's a good girl, huh?"
Frost Rose
She winced slightly at the prick but kept he paw there as he drew blood. She really didnt mind at all. Her aggression from earlier had been from her not being around a whole lot of humans at once. She hated being around a lot of humans. It made her nervous. But being around about 7 was fine to her. Up to 7 she could handle more then that she wouldnt live through it. Or the humans might not. She wagged her tail as he talked to her sweetly.
