Sacha, Smokey, Duke, Tank
Sacha the American Bulldog female was laying in her kennel with her head on her legs just watching people walk by without much of a care. There was fear in her eyes as well ..
Smokey who was an Akita Germen Shepherd mix had come from the same abusive home as Sacha and was way worse then her He cowered in the back of his kennel whimpering when ever a person walked by.
Duke the Aussie Border was in a few Kennels down and his stump of a tail wagging. He moved from the front to the back running and barking.
Tank watched the people glare at him. They could see the pitbull in him. He had boxer too but pitbull was obviously a lot more dominant trait. He just sat in the back.
Luke Anderson
Luke had just arrived here at this new place, he was coming from a place where he was used to being surrounded by dogs, cats, and horses at all times. Though, most of those animals belonged to his parents, Teagan and Tahoe were the only dogs he had brought with him. So, he wanted to make a trip to the dog pound to possibly find a new friend for his dogs who were with him. They pulled up to the pound and he got out, putting leashes on the wolf hybrid and the Weimeraner who were with him. He had to make sure that any dogs he got would get along with his current pets, so he had brought them along.
As he walked through the pound he looked at each of the dogs, noting a few that caught his eye. After passing through once, he returned to the beginning where the American Bulldog was in her cage. He looked to her and he could see the fear that was in her eyes and he spoke to her. Hey there girl... Just a simple line, though he used his vocals to show he meant no harm. They rang out with authority yet without aggression. He was a strong believer that all dogs needed a firm hand, though that they also were not to be harmed. His stance was not one of aggression as he looked to her sheet for her information.
Sacha
Sacha watched the man with the two dogs walk by. She sat up warily and watched as he came back to her kennel.
Her sheet read:
Rescued by Police officers from a home where she was neglected and abused, Fearful of most men and timid toward other dogs. She came in with the Akita Shepherd mix housed next door.
Sacha slowly approached the cage. Her tail stuck underneath her.
Luke Anderson
Luke read her sheet and he frowned momentarily before he knelt down. Tahoe wagged his tail in greeting and woofed a hello as Teagan hung back, she was more aloof around other dogs while Tahoe was very in your face friendly. Luke called the dog by her name to try to get her to approach, though he was unsure whether she would due to her fear of men.
Sacha
Sacha watched him. She never seen a man get down to her level before. She flinched back at the bark from the other dog but then slowly in a submissive stance approach the gate. She sniffed at him warily. Her tail still between her legs. If Smokey had been in here she would of been a lot calmer and a little more willing.
Luke Anderson
Luke was glad when the canine did choose to approach him, in hes submissive stance. Luke softly commanded Tahoe to sit as he saw that his own dog's bark had startled the dog in the cage. He placed a hand slowly against the cage as he remained kneeled down. He planned on trying to take the other dog who was found with Sacha as well...
Sacha
Sacha sniffed at his hand and slowly made to lick it. She kept her self submissinve having found out in her last home that men wouldn't hit you if you did this.
Smokey could see everything seeing as it was only a chainlink between the two. He was the more submissive one. Sacha had taken most of the abuse ude to the fact she protected him 8 out of 10 times. He had lifted his head off his paws to watch them but nothing more.
Luke Anderson
Luke smiled as the canine licked his hand as it had been placed against the links. He was glad that she was at least starting to warm up to him, so she had just made up his mind, he would be taking her home with him. So after he had decided this he spoke. Ok girl, I'll be back you just hang tight. With that he stood up and walked to the counter, informing them that he would be taking her and that he might be taking home more. He then walked over to Smokey's cage and called for him.
Smokey
Smokey may of taken less beatings then Sacha however he had always been timid to start with and seeing his friend hurt by men made him fearful. He stared as the man came to his kennel and he slightly growled. He did sit up. He moved and pressed his body against the fence blocking him from Sacha. He watched Luke Warily.
Luke Anderson
Luke saw that this dog was no where near as open to his approach as the American Bulldog had been. She had at least not growled and had approached him. And now she seemed to want to be friends with him. So, he began to wonder if he might be better off if went and got Sacha and brought her over with him. He decided that might be a good idea so he tied his own dogs' leashes to an empty cage and grabbed a leash for Sacha. He then went to her cage and called her to him once more. If she would approach then he would carefully open her cage and attempt to slowly put a leash on her collar without letting her out. Then he would lead her over to Smokey's cage to see if he would warm up now.
Smokey
Smokey watched him keeping his distance. He wasn't afraid of the other dogs at all like Sacha was. When he brought sacha over he moved to the gate immediatly and pawed at it wanting to get at his friend. He stuck his muzzle out a slight growl coming from his throat but nothing else.
Sacha watched the man warily even as he opened the kennel and put the collar on. She flinched back expecting a kick or a hit and then slowly followed him out. Her tail between her legs and her head low. She sniffed around and kept her distance from his two dogss. However when he brought her to Smokey's cage she moved to it and sniffed at him and whined and pulled. Her tongue licking his muzzle.
Luke Anderson
Luke saw that Sacha was still quite reluctant to trust him, but she was showing progress so he figured that after a little while of seeing that he would not harm her then she would trust him fully. Once they had made it to Smokey's cage and Sacha pulled towards it he let her get to it without letting go of the leash. He saw that both dogs reacted happily to being with each other and that even the shepherd mix seemed a little more at ease, though he still growled a bit. So Luke just stood back and allowed the two to greet each other before he knelt down beside Sacha in front of Smokey's cage. There you go boy, now you got to see your buddy so are you going to play nice now? He knew the dog could not understand but he spoke any way.
Sacha
Sacha tail was wagging and she was down on her front legs. A slight growl rising momentarily as Luke knelt by them but it faded soon after.
Smokey licked at her and pushed to get to her but then he snarled and bit the cage at first when luke knelt down but then went back to licking at sacha as if he wasn't there.
Luke Anderson
Luke did not make any movements as the dog snarled and jumped at the cage that was between himself and the dog's snapping teeth. Then the dog seemed to completely forget about Luke and went back to licking Sacha. So, Luke just petted Sacha gently, moving slowly so that she would not be spooked, ignoring the other dog. Maybe if he saw him paying attention to Sacha and not harming her then he would warm up to him.
Sacha
She slightly growled at Luke as he pat her but other then that she didn't react as she licked smokey.
Smokey watched him but other then that didn't do a thing toward him.
Luke Anderson
Luke remained kneeled down, not reacting as the canine growled at him, knowing that she was just trying to intimidate him in to leaving. But that would not be happening any time soon. So, he just knelt there. If he could gain their trust then he would go check out the other dogs and leave Sacha's leash tied to Smokey's pen so they could be together still.
Sacha
Smokey growling slowly subsided as he paid attention to sacha. his tail even starting to wag.
Sacha laid down and pressed up against the kennel.
Luke Anderson
Luke saw the dog's tail begin to wag and also Sacha had laid down with him beside her. At this he thought he could move foreward some. So, he placed his hand flat against the dog's cage slowly and spoke. Ok boy, are you ready to play nice now? He spoke in cool yet assertive tones that would show that he meant no harm, nor was he afraid.
Smokey
Smokey saw the guy move but this time didn't react his tail still wagged.
Sacha just sat there.
Luke Anderson
Seeing that the dog in the cage was beginning to trust him he tied the female's leash to his cage and stood up slowly so not to spook them. He then walked along the cages to the next dog who had caught his eye. The next one was the black and white mixed breed. He looked over his papers to see his name and information.
Duke
Duke had dozed off till he heard foot steps and then ran to the gate and barked and his stump of a tail wagging.
Paper
Name: Duke
Breed: australian Shepherd X Border Collie
CAme from a loving home but family lost their house in a fire and just didn't have the money to keep him. Very friendly.
Luke Anderson
Seeing that this canine seemed very friendly, he decided that he would not have much problems with him. So, he knelt down to greet the dog. Hey there boy! His tones were a little more excited than they had been with the other two, because it seemed as if this dog would not be scared as easy. He placed his hand against the cage. If the dog reacted favorably then he would go get Tahoe to make sure that the dog would get along well with him. Tahoe would then approach the cage he was lead to and woof a friendly greeting to the other male, his tail wagging.
Duke
Duke sniffed and lapped at his hand. He ran around in a circle and then barked at the other dog his stump still waging
Luke Anderson
Luke was glad when this dog excitedly greeted his own dog. This was good, at least one of the dogs he had chosen would not need a lot of work, not that he really minded having to work with them. He would definitely take this dog home with him. So, now he just had one more dog to check out and that was the pit bull/boxer mix. He pet Duke through the cage the best he could and then walked to the next dog's cage and looked to his information sheet.
Tank
Tank expected the man to just glare at him so he just stayed in the back.
Tank
Male
Pitbull Boxer Mix
WAs rescued from a dog fighting ring. However he was only be used as bait for the other dogs. The scar on his muzzle is from wire being wrapped around his muzzle so he couldn't fight back. He's a bit scared of Short furred dogs that resemble pitbulls or any breed with a pushed in snout and mainly males females he does the best with. He does love attention.
Luke Anderson
Luke knelt down in front of the dog's cage just as he had done with all of the rest of them. He commanded Tahoe to stay back while he saw how the dog might react to him. Tahoe was still in sight, but he remained behind Luke so he would not spook the other dog, he wiggled all over with the excitement of meeting another dog, though. Here Tank Words were not harsh but instead were friendly. He held nothing against him for his breed.
Tank
His tail started to wag when the man knelt down and when he called to him he moved to the gate. Eyeing the other dog warily even though he wasn't near here. However he focused on the human and rubbed up against the kennel which showed bite maarks here and there.
Luke Anderson
Luke petted the dog through the cage door the best he could as he rubbed against it. He felt sorry for this dog for going through what he had. That's a good boy. With that he allowed Tahoe to approach the cage closer. He was obviously no threat and looked nothing like a fighting dog.
Tank
Tank closed his eyes till he heard the other dog approaching and he whimpered and lowered himself down. Thoug hthere was the normal fear he usually had.
Luke Anderson
Luke saw the dog's reaction to Tahoe's approach and he frowned slightly. There was not a friendlier dog around than Tahoe. As the gray dog saw the other dog's reaction of fear to him he whimpered and laid down on the floor, crawling closer so that he might be able to make friends. The whole time his tail wagged. It would be obvious he wanted to make friends.
Tank
Tank remained low but then the other laid down and crawled toward him whimpering and his body relaxed. He was sure if a dog was gonna attack him they wouldn't do that so now he was standing and pawing to get out of the kennel.
Luke Anderson
Tahoe stood up and wagged his tail fiercly as the other dog also stood up and tried to get out of the cage. So, Luke grabbed Tahoe's leash and lead him to where Teagan was still tied, untying her leash and taking them both to the truck. He then returned and filled out the papers for all of the dogs. Next he went to where Smokey and Sacha were. He slowly untied Sacha's leash and tied her to the cage she had been in across the hall while he attempted to open Smokey's cage if he did not act aggresively. If he got the cage opened then he would let himself in and shut the door behind him then attempt to gently place a collar around the dog's neck and attach a leash.
Smokey
Sacha pulled when she was tied to the other kennel and barked.
Smokey stood up and backed away baring his teeth but allowed the collar and leash.
Luke Anderson
Luke had put the collar on the dog despite the way he was baring his teeth. Once the leash was on him, he opened the cage door so the dog could get out as he held tightly to the leash. Once out of the pen he also grabbed Sacha's leash, untying it with his free hand then lead the two dogs to the truck where he tried to put them in a crate that was on the ground. A shelter helper had went to get the other two and if all went well then they would be being brought out now as well.
Sacha, Smokey, Duke, Tank
Sacha licked at SMokey face and the two eagerlys moved to walk out. However both stared at the crates and growled at them. Specially smokey.
Tank & duke came eagerly out. Tank shying back immediatly when he saw the bull dog.
Luke Anderson
Luke saw the two's reaction to the cages and he took a treat from his pocket and showing it to the dog and then tossing one in to each of the cages, hopefully the dogs would follow the treats into the cages and then they would be shut inside. He was ready to take his new pets home.
Smokey
Smokey watched the treat and went for it. He was all for food.
Sacha though didn't she looked at the crate fearfull.
Tank planted his bottom so he wouldn't get any closer to the bulldog.
Duke however barked.
Luke Anderson
Luke hurried to shut the door when Smokey went inside, though he noticed that Sacha did not do so as quickly. He slipped another treat through the bars of the crate that Smokey was in. Good boy He hoped that his praising of the dog would make him less scared being in the cage and maybe Sacha would see that it was ok. The shelter helper lead the other two dogs to the other empty cages that were on the other side of the truck. He attempted to get them in the cages.
Smokey
He tok the treat but was shaking.
Sacha plopped er butt down and just stared at it.
Tank ran right into the cage as if it would protect him.
Duke went in.
Luke Anderson
Luke hated to have to do this, but he wrapped the bulldog's leash around her muzzle so that she could not bite him but so that he could easily remove it when she was inside. He then attempted to push her inside as the shelter worker held the cage and the door open. The other three were already in their cages.
