Balto laid in his cage without a care. He breathed in deeply, quietly, wondering why he was here. Why had humans brought him to this place? It was horrid. He snorted and then lifted his head off his forelegs as he laid on his belly, observing everything that went on around him. He wasn't a pit fighter, not a well-known hero in these lands, but he was a loyal and faithful friend. He sighed, auds drooping wearily as he rested his chin on his legs once more. He was bored. He soon was on his back, pawing at the air. He was good for transporting stuff by sleigh, as long as there was snow on the ground. And it was winter, and there was a bunch of snow outside. He had a negative feeling about this though, not sure if he would get a good owner or not. If he got a bad one, he would certainly try to run. No way would he stay with an evil two-legged. He knew how bad devilous canines could get-- he didn't need any human that was like that.

"Since... Since when do you need a pedigree to help someone?"

Aralyn

A young woman walked to the pound her step light her body swaying with an inner song that only she knew. Aralyn worked here and was well known for her kindness. She saw Balto and gazed around slyly. She smiled and pulled out a treat and stuck it through the cage and whispered "shhhh its our little secret." She smiled at him the bruises on her face fading. She stood up and went up front to the desk where she worked but throoughout the day she would come out and sneak him more treats. Finally she took out a pen and put HOLD in big letters. Balto was going to go home with her.

Balto

Balto's auds pricked forward as he noticed a human walking to him. He slowly lifted his head and tilted it a bit, but a smile ceased his lonesome features. His tongue lolled out of his parted maw as he strained to wag his tail in the small cage. It batted back and fourth hard against the bars as he tried to stand. He wobbled a bit, shaking his dial. He then looked intently at the girl, wondering if she was here to take him out of this place. He desired to be with ones of his own kind that didn't spend all their time yowling out of boredom. He soon collapsed once more and watched her, tail lightly flicking. Never was he looked at by a human here as a friendly creature, or as a dog. Anyone, if they seen his pedigree, would probably dump him off. After all, his mother was a gaint white wolf and his father a running husky. He sighed deeply, taking the treat and munching happily on it. But yet he was still unsure. He didn't go well with the wild side nor the owned side. All he knew that he was somewhere in between. He thought of himself as an outcast, though, most of the time.

Aralyn

She was kind hearted and sweet. Silently she put money into the drawer paying for her new dog. With quiet gentleness she opened his cage and crouched putting a leash on him. "Lets go Balto. You will be happy with me." Aralyn had three other dogs and one horse. Her horse Psyche was also an outcast in both worlds. She was half arabian half andalusian. Her old owners had abused her, then set her free. Wild horses had kicked her out of the herd because she had come from humans. Aralyn had found her sick and injured and from then on had taken good care of her. Now she was here taking another outcast hoping to give him a home and as much freedom as he needed. "Lets go home boy" She said softly

Balto

Balto's auds stayed pricked, curious of this new human. She seemed nicer than most others. He was certainly sure he didn't fit in with either side, wild or captive. He couldn't choose, either, so he usually stayed with both, traveling in between every once in a while. He just wished to satisfy himself. He yawned, tail flicking intently as he watched her. Her words were indeed soothing. He began panting out of happiness when the leash was put around his neck. He hopped out of the cage and sat, staring up at her. Then he stood and started walking, letting out a light yip. He wanted some fresh air! And to get out of this filthy place. Geeze, it wouldn't hurt the people to at least toss some soapy water on the floor, now would it? Ahh, he couldn't help it anyway, though. He pulled gently at the leash, toward the pound entrance.

Aralyn

She laughed and followed him. She didnt really mind him pulling on the leash in his anxiousness. She was happy to see that he wanted out and didnt bark and yap like all the other dogs at the pound. She smiled and led him to the door and on their way to the woodland farm where Aralyn lived with the Lady.
