The wolfess pads over to the fence, curious. She was hungry, even after the lamb, and not wanting to eat all of it she had wandered into town. She saw the many cages and wandered over to them. She gasped when she saw canines in them.
"What are you doing in those cages? So many of you too. What happened to you?"
They were dogs, but they were still very similar to her and all of her pack mates. She waited to see if any would answer.
There was an uproar of barks, snarls, and other noises when you spoke to the dogs. A few dogs didn't bother to make such noises though. And one dog, a labrador and collie mix, speaks to you over the melee of barking.
"Some of us had a pack of humans to live with, then the humans took us here and never came back. Some of us grew up on the streets, and were brought here." the dog sighed, "All of us are here because humans don't like us and they don't want to see us anymore." he stepped closer to the end of his fence, "It's been some time since I saw a wolf come near this place."
I don't think I would like to live in an enclosure like these
*she says, ignoring the snarls of some dogs*
"I don't think you would either. But humans would never leave a wolf here. They take wolves somewhere else." The lab mix watches Azari, and picks up the scents of other wolves from her. He'd heard about how wolves lived in packs and such, and figured it was like living with a human pack.
*asks*
Well, do you just stay here like this forever? Until you die?
His floppy ears draw back slightly at the question. It was one that he didn't like to think about.
"Yes, allot of us stay here until we die. I've heard that sometimes the humans will kill dogs if there are too many here. But, sometimes other humans come here and take dogs into their packs."
What are their packs like?
"Well, there is an alpha pair of humans who are mates, like dogs and wolves are. Then they have their offspring in the pack." he tilts his head slightly, think back to his own human pack, "They live in this large den thing they call 'house', or home. They get very delicious foods and eat three times a day. And they command these huge, loud creatures that never say a word." he adds the last sentence, speaking of cars. "Those large things never eat or move unless a human gets inside of them. Sometimes, I got to get inside them. They move very fast."
You used to live with them? As a wolf, I dislike humans, but it must have been better than living here.
*she sighs and then asks*
What's your name?
He nodded to her questions.
"My humans gave me the name of Keita." he stated, "What's your name?"
I'm Azari. What were your humans like?
*she says, noticing how skinny most of the dogs were*
Do you ever get anything to eat here? Like you did with the humans?
Keita shakes his head, "We get the same kind of bland food everyday here. And we don't get allot of it. It's..." he searches for words to describe the dog food they eat, "...it's like little round pieces of stuff, all the same size."
"When I was with my human pack, they were nice at first. I got to stay inside and eat some of their food. After a while, though, they just didn't pay much attention to me." The lab mix sighs, thinking back to those days, "When I got fully grown, they suddenly didn't want me in their pack anymore, I suppose. They brought me here. But, they were nice when I was just a pup."
*around at all of them in amazement*
And nobody has ever tried to get out of here on their own?
Hold on, I will be back later.
*and runs off*
"Look what I have"
*she says, walking up with half of a lamb in her mouth. she couldn't stand to see all of those fellow canines so thin and hungry. she walks over to Keita's cage and starts to push the lamb through the bars*
"Grab it and pull it through. And, if you get full before eating it all, please share it with the other dogs. Especially the puppies, they really need it since they are growing. But if you want, eat it all. I have to go get some food for myself now, goodbye."
*she says and runs off*
He looks at the half of lamb curiously. He had always eaten food cooked by heat, but this meat still smelled good. His brushy tail waived merrily and he tugged the lamb through.
"Thank you very much! You are very kind." Keita watches Azari run off, then begins to eat the lamb. When he had eaten much of his meal, and could still eat it all, he reluctantly stopped and pushed the remainder of the meal to the cage on his right. It housed a yearling dog who quickly bolted the food.
