Cavan
The grizzled-colored wolf sauntered over the rocky ground with his tail stiff and cricked, showing he definately wasn't in a good mood. He was furious with his brother. "It was my pack! Then he had to come in and ruin it!" Cavan muttered heatedly to himself. After learning to live with his own kind again, he thought he had found the perfect wild pack to reside with. But no, his deeply-dispised brother was now part of the pack, and Cavan wouldn't be caught dead living near his brother.
Dark Star
During the night, Dark Star had had a dream of a dead wolf, covered in blood, and faint laughter in the distance. He woke up with a jolt, and didn't see Jais anywhere. Fretting about Cavan and Jais, he carefully left his mate, and ran countless places searching. He finally picked up Cavans scent, and followed it here. He barked, breathing heavily. "Cavan, I need to talk to you." He had no look of anger or anything else in his eyes, just a sad wonder. He sat down a little away from the wolf, it was easy to tell he needed his space. He then continued. "I sent your brother out to try and find you a dusk, and I see he is either avoiding this place or can't find you. Cavan, I am not picking sides. I can't, you are my friend but Jais, he is part of my pack and...ah nevermind." He knew that Tri-Tundra was fond of Jais, but wouldn't waste his breath or Cavans time with such words. "The point is, Cavan, I trust you. I know nothing about your past, or what you did, but I would trust my life with you. The truth is I already have." He sighed and continued. "No matter what you have done in the past, no matter what your brother did, you can't change that. Neither can I." He then spoke softly with a sad tone. "I want to know what happened back then, there are no concequences. If you like, I will also tell my story." He waited for a response.
Cavan & Jais
Cavan had woken up quickly, fangs bared until he recognized his approached. His tail thumped against the ground once, permitting a friendly gesture. Besides Peregrine and Nachi, Dark Star was the only wolf he had come to trust fully. Cavan sat up slowly, listening quietly as the alpha spoke. "It's complicated." he finally stated, rather unwilling to tell his story. But where would he be now if not for Dark Star's help? He owed to this wolf to cooperate, at least. "I will tell you, though it is a strange story."
Jais had searched in a completely different area than his brother was in. He figured Cavan might head back to the Emerald Pines territory. But after an investigation, he found the territory was occupied by a pack and doubted his brother would have tresspassed. A tireless search finally brought the white brute to the Moutains. The voices of his new alpha and brother caught his ears, as did their scents. Curious and apprehensive, Jais crept downwind towards the two. He let the darkness and vegetation conceal him as he stood and listened. To approach them would certainly aggrivate his brother; Jais would approach after Dark Star left.
Not at all aware of his brother presence, Cavan started with his story. "It all started when I was born in the Sedge Creek pack. To Storm Alarm and Glider. I had two sisters and two brothers; Railu and Jais. A kodiac bear, named Athara, came and apparently attacked out pack. She accidentally killed one of my sisters; we were all so young, she didn't mean too." He added the last part quickly, trying to defend Athara's actions. "I guess my pack fought her, then she took me and my other sister, Nachi back to her den site. A wolf pack had killed some of her cubs and she only had two left. Dakar and Nyx, brother and sister. Being so young, Nachi and I bounded to her and our new siblings. They were our family. It wasn't until later that my original pack came to 'rescue' us, as they put it. It was a long stand off and tensions grew; we argued back and forth. Drakar, Nyx, and myself argued with Railu and Jais; they argued with us. In the end a tornado came raging threw the area and split us up. I haven't seen Athara, Nyx, or Drakar since then. But they are my family." He paused a moment in thought before adding, "I know it must sound so rediculous... but our hate runs deep."
Jais held back a rumble, thinking of the long fight they had. Drakar and Cavan were relentless as they made fun of the weakened Railu. Jais stood up for his crippled brother and would have fought Cavan if given the chance. Both sides were stubborn, and perhaps a fight would have ended it all if the tornado hadn't come through and torn the two sides apart. That was the begining of the end for Jais's pack. And also the begining for Cavan's new and lonely life, until he had been captured by humans.
Dark Star
He sighed and looked up, a surpised feeling inside him. "Well, it isn't ridiculous, I can understand both sides. I am not anything near being a qualified shrink, but I really think your hatred is simply from growing up....different." He didn't know if that was the right word, but it was all he could think of. He got a very very sad look in his eyes. "Well, here is my history. Not as exciting, but I think you should know." He paused, took a deep breath, and began. "A long time ago I lived in my pack with Tri-Tundra, her sister, my family, and my siblings Havannah, Risk, and Aurora. Once we got older, Tri-Tundra found a mate named Survivor, and everything was fine. But then Tri-Tundra became fond of the leopards that lived nearby, and decided to live with them for a while. They wouldn't allow Survivor to come, so he stayed behind. Spirit, Tri-Tundra's sister, had went on a walk with Survivor. Survivor never came back. He had been killed by a Kodiac bear, and had died to save Spirit. From that, things went downhill. When Tri-Tundra came back, she was so upset she left for days at a time trying to find him. She couldn't take his death for an answer. But when Nyscee came, things got better. She joined our pack, and we were all happy till..." This is where Dark Star got a faraway look in his eyes. He trembled. "My.....m-y family was all killed by Humans. They came in with guns, shot them down, and cut them to peices. Tri-Tundra, myself, and Nyscee were the only ones known to escape. But just recently Spirit showed up." He looked up and breathed deeply. "My history is not so great. Until now. Everything is going better, except for this family fued." He looked Cavan in the eye and said. "If you know what is right, you will forgive him. Yes, you both have reasons to have deep hatred but that doesn't mean that you have to let it tear apart your lives. Not when there is still a chance to put it behind you." He didn't think Cavan would listen, but it was best he said it. "I have told no one but you this story Cavan, you are lucky." He then got up and looked to the sky. "I should go.....don't want to leave my pack alone...." He trailed off and walked away, not looking back.
Cavan & Jais
He hung his head down slightly, listening to Dark Star's story. He wanted to say something to cheer him up, but couldn't think of anything. Cavan had a hard time expressing what he felt, and would rather hold most of it in anyway. He would just nod to show his understanding. He turned his good eye away from the alpha when he was looked at directly, simply so no threat would be taken. After a moment of silence, he spoke, "For you, I'll try."
Watching Dark Star leave, Jais took a deep breath and stalked towards his brother. His tail was ridged and cricked slightly, showing his anxiety. "I heard the story. I'm willing to forget the past and your comments about our brother and pack..." Jais was interupted by a sinister snarl.
Cavan had wheeled around, caught off guard by his brother. "You dirty little rat! How long have you been spying on me?" his hackles were raised high. "He was Your brother, and a pathetic cripple at that! As far as 'our' pack goes, I hold no claim to them; better dead I'd say. You never did care about me and don't care what my life has been like!" he snarled outrageously. "Don't you dare ruin this for me, this is my pack to live in! I've finally found a new home!"
Jais held back a growl as he spoke sternly in a trembling voice, "No, don't you ruin this for ME! We can both live in this pack. And hold your tounge about Railu, he deserved more. But you and Nachi were just perfectly happy living with our sister's killer, weren't you?" Oh no, shouldn't have said that one. Jais regretted instantly, "Alright... we've both said some thi..." Now he was cut off by a snarl.
"Shut up! I've heard enough!" he said wrathfully, then turned and stalked off before Jais could speak. The white wolf stared at his brother's form until it dissapeared into the darkness. "That went real well. Maybe he'll cool off by morning and I'll talk to him then." Jais said quietly to himself and began to walk slowly towards the Avalanche Grove territory. But before going there, he stopped at the No Wolf Zone between that pack and his old pack, the Sedge Creek territory.
