Darkia & Coltrane

Darkia had just run and she chose to go up the mountains following the river was best. She purposfully ran through it to loose their scent. Only after tiring did she find a semi quiet area and moved to licked Coltrane's burn. She was happy Harth followed.

Coltrane laid down by his mother now exhausted.

An ear remained back the entire time they ran, fully expecting the voice of Ethan or the bay of his hounds to be hot on his heels. It didn't immediately dawn on the harwari mix that he was Ethan's usual means of transportation, and the rocky land that Darkia chose to run through made it impossible for the man to chase them with any vehicle. Ethan simply couldn't chase after them, at least not right away - he'd have to borrow a horse from Ben, first.

Harth was breathing heavy by the time Darkia found a quiet place to stop. He circled around the pair once, and briefly sniffed noses with Darkia while constantly look back at the trail they'd just come from. Almost belatedly, the stallion remembered the scent of singed hair and burnt flesh, and snapped out of his panic long enough to address his little family. "You two okay..?"

Darkia

She huffed in his nose as she stood there. She turned to licking Coltrane burned haunch. "We'll be alright"

Harth stepped a little closer to Coltrane, having never been this close to his own child in all these long months, at least not without a metal barrier between them. He had no idea how to sooth the colt's pain though; whenever he was hurt, Ethan was always attentive to his injuries. But here, there were no creams, no bandages, no cleansing washes. It was up to them to take care of themselves.

"What.. happens now?" Harth questions, unable to hide the uncertainty that crept into his words. Never in his life had he been without Ethan, without a constant order to guide him, and the stallion had no idea what to do now.

Darkia & Coltrane

Darkia was beyond happy that Harth came with her. **Now we try to find a herd to join** she said calmly moving to groom him to reassure him.

There was clear tension in his muscles when Darkia set about grooming him, and so lacking was his socialization with other horses that he didn't immediately turn to groom her back. All he could think to do in the moment was listen for the rumble of Ethan's truck or ATV, though neither could have followed them through this steep terrain.

After a few minutes, his heartrate began to settle, and he came back to the advice that Darkia had offered. "A herd? Right, right, that would be a good first move." And he looked around, as if he might get some clue as to where the nearest herd might be. "...you know of any around here?"
