Hunter * Eva
Ambulance sirens blared, high pitched and screaming through the still night air. In the back of the first ambulance was Dimitri, and in the back of the second was Hunter. The two lovers were both knocking on death's door and Eva was fast at work on Dimitri while a doctor in the other ambulance was fast at work on Hunter. Finally the ambulance screeched to a halt at the entrance of the hospital. The doors slammed open, attendings and nurses were flying around everywhere. GET ME VIKTOR VOLKOV! NOW! Eva's roar was heard above the hustle and bustle. She left as the nurses raced Dimitri into the hospital, heading to aid Hunter and the others. As the two were wheeled inside, Eva barked orders. She was quick, efficient, and smart. Nothing could stand in her way. Dimitri, male, russian. He requested Viktor for a doctor. Knife wound. DO NOT JOSTLE HIM GOD DAMN IT! She shouted. Then She started yelling off Hunter's stats. Hunter, age unknown, pregnant. No idea how far along. Unconcious on the seen, she has a fever of 105. Breathing labored. Get her stable! Go go go!
Dimitri; Viktor
Dimitri didn't want to be incapacitated for the fall and winter holidays. He also hoped for Hunter to get better, because as any good boyfriend would do, he loved spending time with her. He wasn't ready to die. He wasn't going to give up. Hunter needed him and he needed Hunter. And what if Shaine grew up without a mom and dad? And what about Hunter's unborn child? Dimitri had mixed thoughts about the unborn baby, as it was the spawn of Damian, but by all means, this baby was Dimitri's and Hunter's. Dimitri hoped the child never found out who her real father was. He hoped she grew up to only believe that Dimitri was her biological father. Of course, he'd talk to Hunter about it, because she had even more of a say in this as he did.
His eyes looked glassy and lifeless, and his breathing was wheezy and shallow. He tried to open his mouth to speak, but he didn't have enough breath to get a single sound out at this moment. Viktor rushed out when the nurses relayed Eva's order to him, and he looked pale when he saw that it was his brother in critical conditions. He ran to the side of the gurney and helped the nurses and doctors roll it down the hall. "We need to get him to the OR! Quick! This knife is too close to his vital organs!" He then looked down at Dimitri. "Hang in there, little brother. We'll get you fixed up. Hunter too. Just stay still. We're going to remove the knife and check for internal injuries." Dimitri seemed to calm down as much as a trauma patient could, as he knew he was in good hands with his older brother. Viktor had always taken care of him. Viktor and Adrian taught Dimitri nearly everything he knew. Viktor wasn't going to let his little brother die.
As the entered the operating room, they first did an X-ray. A bit later when the results came through, they deemed it safe to begin the procedure. After putting him under anesthesia, they began working on getting the knife out.
Hunter * Eva
Hunter was seeing things in a haze, and her eyes were overly bright with fever. I want.... Dimitri.... She whispered. She couldn't catch her breath. Why couldn't she breathe? What was happening? Tears fell from her eyes, and all sorts of beeping came from the moniters telling the nurses and doctors that she was crashing.
She's crashing! GET YOUR ASSES IN GEAR LETS MOVE MOVE MOVE! Eva was a whirlwind in the ER. Nobody got in her way, and it was known throughout the hospital that the ER was her domain. She grabbed the paddles, barked out orders then placed them to Hunter's chest. Clear! She shouted. One zap. Still the moniters were screaming. Clear! The second zap brought the beeping back telling Eva that Hunter's heart beat was normal once more. Back in business. We need to get this baby out of her. Now. Book me an OR. Hunter was already starting to go into labor, but would be to weak to give birth to the baby. Soon the team of medical staff was in the OR, stabilizing both Hunter and her baby. Screaming, wailing, the newest daughter was brought into the world premature but relativly healthy. Just rather small. Hunter's fever was starting to go down, her heart rate normal. Dehyrated, starving, and with pnemonia she would never again regain full health. Now she would be some what sickly, unable to go out for extended periods of time in the cold without risk of a broncial infection. She was wheeled back into a room, where she could recover as her daughter was taken into the nursery. It seems there would be a christmas for the Volkovs after all.
(Ten Hours Later)
Sore. Tired. Muscles cramped. Must. Move. A soft groan escaped the young woman's lips. Every muscle in her body hurt. Her chest felt like it was on fire. And she was so... cold... She burrowed deeper into her blankets her entire body trembling. Dimitri? She whispered softly. The hospital room was dark as night had fallen once more leaving the room in its own darkness.
Dimitri; Viktor
Dimitri was out of the woods for now. A few of his ribs were broken, muscles were torn, his lung had collapsed, and he had major internal bleeding, and having lost a lot of blood, he needed two transfusions. He had major surgery to repair the damage, and at this time, he was barely awake and in agonizing pain even though he was on several different pain medications. He had been hurt badly before, and he had even been stabbed by Damian a long time ago right in front of Hunter. But never as bad as this. This was the worst. It almost cost him his life.
Viktor was walking past Hunter's room when he heard her faint voice. He turned back and walked into her room. "How are you feeling? Dimitri is stable enough to see you if you'd like me to bring him in here. He's in pain and he's not supposed to move very much, but he's been waiting to be able to see you. Are you ready?" His voice was soft and he had great bedside manners. That was surprising due to his personal life as a sort of vigilante, and Hunter probably knew very well what he was like. One of the nicest guys on earth among his small group of trusted people - including Hunter - but viciously brutal toward his enemies. He was very protective of all his family and friends.
And with Damian dead, Dimitri and Hunter might be able to get back to their normal lives soon. At least, as normal as possible in those God-forsaken city.
Eva
Click, click, click, click. Eva was getting ready to leave for the night. Gone was her white coat and scrubs, she was now dressed for a night out. At least for a little bit. She needed a drink and she needed it bad. Hunter was a good friend of hers, and losing her was no an option. Black high heels, smooth creamy white legs led up to a black skirt that was cut just above the knee with a cute little flair and a one shouldered bright red shirt that should have contrasted with her dark red hair but instead made her hair seem that much more intensly red. She wanted to stop in and see Hunter before she left, just to make sure she was going to be all right for the rest the night but a large man blocked her way. Excuse me, Viktor. Her voice held authority. Not over him, just in general. Quiet, with just a hint of an edge. She moved passed him, read the charts at the foot of Hunter's bed then checked her vitals. We gotta stop meeting like this, honey. She murmured softly. No more big excitement, guns, knives, or staying out in the cold. Got it? Hunter gave a weak nod. With a nod, Eva headed towards the door where Viktor was still standing. Isn't it time for you to be getting off work, Viktor? she asked softly. She didn't want to be alone tonight. Death was knocking on her friend's door and it kept putting things into prespective for her. Life was short. Live it to the fullest.
Hunter murmured softly I want... Dimitri. Eva gave a nod. If it's okay to move him, would you like to move him into the room with her? She asked quietly.
Viktor; Dimitri
Viktor's shift had finished about two hours ago, but he hadn't left yet. He wanted to stay to keep an eye on Dimitri and Hunter. He didn't want to lose his brother. Not again. He had been clinically dead for several minutes long ago before Viktor managed to revive him. Surprisingly, it left little damage besides a mild loss of vision in his right eye. He had just recovered from blindness due to head trauma a few months before that. But with the two recovering nicely this time, he could relax a little bit more.
"Sorry, Eva." Viktor said as he moved out of the other doctor's way. He gave a faint smile. He had always admired her authority. She got things done. Viktor hadn't been here as long as Eva, and though his skill was likely as high as hers, there was a pecking order to be followed. Viktor claimed authority in his personal life - shooting, slashing, stabbing enemies - but when it came to his professional life, he was more like second-in-command.
He waited for Eva to finish talking to Hunter. No more guns and knives? Dimitri wouldn't like that. But of course, Dimitri did need somebody to keep him grounded in reality, and Hunter did a good job of that.
"What? Oh, yeah. My shift ended a while ago." Viktor replied to Eva, in a polite yet distracted voice. His bright blue eyes turned toward Hunter again when she spoke. Viktor nodded to Eva. "I'll go get him."
In a few minutes, Dimitri's bed was wheeled into Hunter's room. Dimitri hated to be in the hospital, unable to go out and do everything he did, but he looked a bit calmer when he saw Hunter. Dimitri was barely awake. His green eyes looked lifeless, as if he wasn't completely there. He eventually turned his head to look at his girlfriend, but grunted in pain when he moved. "Hunter..." Dimitri mumbled. His voice was weak. Everything was weak. He felt almost dead. But he was alive. Thank God he was alive. "It looks...like we're going to make it." He wasn't exactly sure of that, but he wanted to remain positive for Hunter.
But after a few moments, the memories of what happened flooded back. He looked back up at the ceiling and then closed his eyes. "He's dead." He said, almost in an unsure voice. "It's over." He had spent most of his childhood with that monster Damian, and it left a mark. The man had such a grip on him that he wasn't sure how he was supposed to feel after his death. But for the most part, he was just happy that it was over.
He really needed a drink right now.could really use a drink right now.
Viktor watched the conversation. He didn't want to butt in or anything. This wasn't his business. However, he, for one, wanted to celebrate Damian's death. He addressed Eva again. "Hey, are you doing anything tonight?" He inquired, looking down at the woman with his cool blue eyes. He was ready to get out of here after a long day.
Hunter
Dimitri... Her voice was barely above a whisper. Weak. Tired. Sick. Hunter used her remaining strength and pulled herself up, took the few steps to Dimitri's bed, and curled up beside him. She rested her head on his shoulder, doing her best to be mindful of his injuries. Something was missing from her. In her eyes. They didn't hold her usual lively spark, but were merely cold, weary, soft. Where was the real Hunter? It was as though it had been beaten out of her. She closed her baby blue eyes and sighed softly. Things would hopefully be much quieter around here now... Without a psychopath on the loose.
Eva tilted her head a bit as she glanced up at Viktor. I was thinking about heading down to the night club to grab a drink or two. Unwind and relax. Would you like to join me? She gave a faint smile. She didn't know him that well. But then again, Eva didn't know much of anyone around here.
