Phantom trotted up to the front doors, he stopped carefully and then let out a loud winny, he then looked back at the young boy to make sure he was still ok.
A young doctor noticed the horse and ran to the doors. But what stuck out at him even more was what was on his back - a boy. He thought that maybe the horse belonged to the boy. Many pets would die for their owners. "Hey! Come see this!" The young man called. Several doctors rushed to the scene. An older woman, who was clearly a nurse, approached the group slowly. "Young man, are you okay?" She asked.
The boy shrugged. "I fell and hurt my ankle. I think it's broke. The horse found me and saved me." He replied, trying to be strong. The small group of doctors smiled and clapped their hands. "What a horse!" One said. The young man helped the boy off the horse's back, leading him into the ER.
A few doctors stayed behind and watched the horse. One clicked her tongue and held her hand out. One doctor patted the dog and spoke softly to her.
Some time passed, and the boy was led out to the waiting room to wait for somebody to pick him up. He had some crutches with him.
A woman flew through the door, not noticing the horse at first. She ran to the counter and spoke quickly. "Where's my son? His name is Zachary Jones. I got a call that he was here." The lady at the desk pointed to the boy in the corner. "The horse outside found him and carried him here." The mother first ran to her son and helped him to the door. She looked at the horse on her way out. "Good horse. You're a real hero." She complimented, then thanked the doctors, and walked to the car with her son and dog. Then they drove away. They never would forget this day, when a wild horse was loving enough to save an injured boy.
The horse did not move, he just watched the comotion. After a while he looked down at her legs and saw that they were bleeding, he had barbed wire wrapped around his legs. He looked to the nurse that had been clicking to him and nickered. He had never seen so many people here. He was amazed they did not seem to notice his huge size. He stood at almost 21 hands high.
The plump nurse examined the horse's wounds. "Mark, could you please bring me some clippers?" She said to one of the young doctors behind her. The man nodded and ran off, but soon returned with some wire clippers. He walked up to the horse and put his hand out while he attempted to clip the barbed wire, hoping Phantom would cooperate...
Phantom shyed away momentarily but she soon walked back towards the doctors, she stood quietly as the wire was cut away. She put her head down a bit and kept it at the height of the doctor, she watched as he cut the wire away.
The doctor smiled when the wire was cut away. He walked back into the building momentarily, then came out with some disinfectant. He attempted to clean the horse's wounds and apply the disinfectant. Once this was done, he would be finished and Phantom could go.
Phantom stayed calm until the antiseptic was applied, it stung, so she jumped away and shook her head. But then she again stood still and waited patiently for the doctor to continue. As he worked on her she remembered how she used to help the hospital back where she came from, she would go out and search for anyone hurt, then if she found them and they trusted her and they were able to pull themselves onto her back then she would carry them quickly back to the hospital, if they were too injured or unable then she would run as fast as she could back to the hospital, they loved her beacause she could run without stopping and without worrying about traffic. Then one day it went up in flames an she was left alone, she lately had been going around looking for anyone that needed help, but she realized that she had nowhere to go, she slept out underneath any tree she could find. She wondered what she would do when this doctor finished with her.
The doctor stood up and patted the horse. "Good to go." He said before leaving Phantom. Her treatment was finished.
Phantom watched the doctor leave. She stood there and did not move. After a bit, however, she walked over to the side of the building and stood there. She did not want to leave, so she figured she would just stay.
One of the doctors stayed behind and observed the horse. She was a younger woman, only in her early 20s. She could not stray from her work and knew that Phantom must continue on her way as well. "Go, horse. Shoo!" She said softly, waving her hands.
Phantom shook her head from side to side. She did not want to go, this place reminded her so much of her old home. She had nowhere else to go. As the human tried to shoo her away she only looked at her and nickered a bit.
The doctor sighed and walked back into the hospital. She had no time for a horse when there were people to save.
Phantom folowed the doctor to the door. She peered inside. She sighed. How could she possibly make them understand? And if she could, would they let her help? She stood there and watched the people as they moved around and went from room to room.
