Roni followed the jeep to the ranch. She was so amazed by how much this place was beautiful. She looked at Nate in the back and smiled. Nate on the other hand was worried about Roni getting hurt from one of the horses. Spencer smiled at the nature. True, they could all get used to it. But Roni would do anything to work with horses again. She might even like taking care of the cattle and such. She parked the van next to the jeep and turned the engine off. Nate got out and Spencer. Leaving Roni in the van. But she got out and looked around. Putting her hands in her back pockets she smiled. ''Its beautiful!'' she said. Nate smiled. ''Sure is'' Spencer looked around and smiled and nodded.
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Bethany drove the Jeep up to the ranch. It was about twenty minutes out of town. All of the land that was fenced in along this dirt road belonged to the Andersons. Once they were near the house, Bethany parked the Jeep. Then the two of them got out. They heard Roni say that it was beautiful and they nodded. That's what made us want to buy this place, then it just took about a year to have the stables and house built the way we wanted it. Kayla spoke of how their parents had paid to have the ranch built after they had bought the property with some money that they had saved. So, y'all ready to see the horses? She smiled, these horses and the dogs were like family for them. The dogs happened to still be inside at the moment, and in the fenced in yard out back. They could be heard barking as they all stood there.
Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats, Nate Cole
Roni nodded. ''I am!'' she said. Nate nodded and so did Spencer. Roni smiled as she could hear the dogs. She could also hear the neighing of horses from the stables and was ready to go look. She waited for them and followed. Nate stuck to the back and so did Spencer. Nate was more worried then ever. He was always worried but Spencer was not. Roni smiled and waited
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Kayla and Bethany both smiled as they led the way to the first stable. The first stable they came to was the mare stable. This is where the majority of their horses were kept. They led them down through each of the stalls and introduced each of the mares in turn. By now the foals had been separated from their mothers and the colts had been put in the stallion barn. After introducing each of the mares Kayla asked if Roni had any questions about them. A few of the barn cats played outside of one of the stalls, in the aisle.
Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats, Nate Cole
Roni followed with awe in her eyes. She looked at Kayla and shook her head. As she went by each one she would pet each on of the horses. She looked at Nate and smiled letting him know she was ok. Nate nodded and looked at the horses. Spencer followed not touching the horses but looking in each of the stalls.
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Kayla smiled as she saw two of the three looking over the Paints and Quarter Horses. Then they made it to the Arabians and Thoroughbreds. Bethany spoke up now. These ones here are my babies. All of the Paints and Quarter Horses are trained in western events and working on the ranch here. These guys are eventers. There was pride in her voice as she spoke of the Arabians and Thoroughbreds. Then Kayla showed them to their newest mare. This is Flower, she just showed up here a week or so ago. The mare had begun to fit in here, and for that they were thankful.
Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats, Nate Cole
She smiled. ''Their all very very beautiful1'' she said. She looked at the Arabians and Thoroughbreds and then coming to Flower she smiled. ''Shes just as beautiful as the others. Have you been able to get a saddle on her?'' she asked. Nate looked at Flower. Admiring the mares mane and tail and her coat. Spencer stood by looking at the mare.
Flower neighed and snorted. She put her head out of the half door and pushed a little on Kayla. She looked at the others.
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Kayla smiled as Flower nudged at her. She lifted her hand to pet the mare's forehead. Flower was a sweet mare, even though they really hadn't been able to work with her too awful much. No, we have just been working on getting her integrated into our herd mainly. Their main objective was to see which of their horses Flower got along well with. Bethany picked up the Calico cat that had walked over to her and began rubbing on her legs. Also, we have quite a few dogs and the barn cats, so you'll have to be comfortable working around them. Bethany spoke.
Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats, Nate Cole
Roni smiled ''I could get used to that'' she said to Bethany. She looked at Kayla. ''While y'all get her used to being around the herd. I could maybe teach her how to be have when you get on her? If thats ok?'' she asked. At this Nate tensed a little. She was his little sister of course he would be worried. Spencer moved forward a little and smiled. Flower closed her eyes as Kayla petted her forehead.
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
That's good, because around here we like all kinds of animals, and if you couldn't work around the dogs or cats then you probably wouldn't work out long. We'll introduce you to the dogs after we see the stallion barn. Bethany spoke, still petting the calico cat that she held in her arms. Then Roni offered to teach the mare her manners while they got her used to the rest of the herd and Kayla nodded. Sure, she seems like a pretty easy going girl, so that would be fine. We also have some young horses that we are going to have to start working with more. Kayla smiled to the boys, noting how concerned Nate seemed. We don't have any vicious animals or anything. Any of them that might be difficult, Matt deals with. She spoke in a reassuring manner, hoping to calm his nerves as she continued to pet Flower.
Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats, Nate Cole
Nate looked at Kayla. ''I may be concerned, but Roni seemed to show she would do anything to help horses as the last time she almost got kicked in the head by one when she was teaching. She got bucked off'' he said. Roni flushed red as he said this. ''I was just trying to get the stallion to be ok around me and the others.'' she muttered. Spencer smiled back and looked at Roni. ''After he proved he didnt want to be ok'' he joked. Roni shot a glare at him and laughed. ''At least I didnt break anything'' she said. She looked at Bethany and Kayla. ''Ill explain everything that happened with that later.'' she whispered. She knew Nate and Spencer would laugh if she told it right now. Nate looked at Flower and moved towards her and patted her neck. Spencer stayed where he was and put his hands in his pockets. Flower snorted a little.
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Kayla and Bethany both nodded as the girl spoke of the experience. Of course, we are not telling you there is no danger. But, if we have any difficult cases, or any that are less than willing to cooperate then we let our brother Matt deal with them. Or we have Luke come over and help out. All of our horses here are pretty even tempered, though some can be a bit feisty sometimes. Kayla spoke honestly, not wanting to sugar coat anything nor scare anyone off. When it came to horses, there was always dangers. But they wouldn't let their hands take unnecessary challenges that could put them in unneeded danger. Well, if you guys are ready we can go see the stallions now? Bethany suggested.
Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats, Nate Cole
Roni nodded, ''Sure.'' She said. She followed them and Nate was now walking beside Kayla and Bethany along with Roni and Spencer.
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Kayla and Bethany led the way to the stallion barn. Once inside they pointed out each of the stallions and called them by name. All of them in here are either Paints or Quarter Horses with the exception of Bullseye, Wind, Risk, and ShotGun. It was Bethany who spoke. The three that she spoke of were the first three that belonged to her. The last was her brother's Mustang. We are looking to expand our Thoroughbred and Arabian line as well as soon as we can find any good stock. Bethany spoke again. These lines were solely her idea, they were her favorite breeds and she had always wanted to breed them. So, upon moving here she had made her dream a reality.
Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats, Nate Cole
Roni looked at them, ''They make good stock?'' she asked. She looked at each one of them. Nate looked at Bullseye. and then the others, but came back to Bullseye. He patted his neck. Spencer looked at Risk and the others. He looked at Bethany. Roni just stared at the horses
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Bethany paused for a moment before she responded to Roni. I meant we would get more as soon as we found some good horses that would fit into what we want from our lines. We breed for athletic ability and endurance. Bethany explained what she had said, she figured that Roni might not have exactly followed her if she wasn't raised in a horse family or up to date on all of the horse terms. Kayla made her way over to Reaper. Reaper was the youngest of their stallions. He was a flashy black and white overo Paint with blue eyes. His feisty ways had won Kayla over and he was probably one of her favorites right now, though she loved them all. She pet the stallion who nudged her a little roughly. Easy, Reaper She whispered to him and he nickered almost in reply and rested his head on the half door.
Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats, Nate Cole
Roni nodded ''To win shows right?'' she asked. Nate went over to Kayla and Reaper. ''Hes pretty'' he whispered. He stroked the stallions mane. Spencer looked at Risk right in the eyes
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Bethany nodded. Yeah, but we don't do a lot of just shows. We mainly just do western competitions with the Quarter Horses and Paints. And I do Endurance, Show Jumping, and Three Day Eventing with the Arabians and Thoroughbreds. She filled Roni in on the events that they competed in. They didn't exactly do a lot of in hand conformation shows, though every now and again they would.
Kayla smiled as she looked back to Nate, upon hearing his voice. Thanks. This here is my baby. This had been the first horse that she had bought on her own without any one's help when he was just a colt.
Meanwhile, Risk snorted and pawed at the ground as Spencer stared him down. He was thinking that the man was some sort of a threat due to the way he was looking him in the eyes.
Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats, Nate Cole
Spencer moved forward, not looking him in the eyes anymore. He was calm and not trying to pose a threat. He reached out and let the stallion take his scent in.
Roni looked at Bethany, ''Thats cool! I tried back at home to get some of the horses into some competitions but Nate wouldnt let me so I just rode them out in the pasture til I was sure that I had trained them enough but he still didnt let me so I just stuck to carrying for them and riding them.'' she said. She saw Spencer and then Risk, she tried to ignore it though, Spencer had a little bit of experience with horses, not much but he did so she just didnt pay attention to him.
Nate smiled. ''How long you had him?'' he asked. Petting the stallions neck.
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Kayla looked back to Reaper from Nate as the guy asked her how long she had had the stallion. A little less than three years. I got him as soon as he was able to be weaned when I was 16. I saved up money for like a year before I bought him. She explained how she had gotten the stallion as she stroked his forehead.
Bethany nodded once more. Yeah! It's really fun. Maybe if you get used to these guys and show us that you're good we might let you ride some of them in our competitions for us. It gets a little tiring just having us to show them all. She glanced over at Roni's brother to see how he might take the offer, she was sure he probably wouldn't like it but he would have to let his sister grow up some time.
Seeing the guy look away from him and now approaching him calmly, Risk calmed down considerably. He was your normal hot headed Thoroughbred, but he had learned some manners when it came to interacting with the humans. He inhaled the man's scent and then tossed his mane gently as he whinnied.
Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats, Nate Cole
Nate smiled. ''Thats good, ive been saving money for almost over five years to buy a horse, but I keep spending it on stuff we need.'' he said. Hearing Bethany he turned a sighed, ''I guess, your almost eighteen so yeah I guess'' he said.
Roni's eyes brightened, ''that would be great, I would love to be part of it!'' she said. She looked back at her brother and smiled. ''Thanks, finally you let me!'' she said. She turned back to Bethany and smiled. ''I wont let you two down.'' she said.
Spencer rubbed Risk's forehead and patted his neck as he talked softly to him.
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Kayla smiled as she heard Nate say that he had been saving up. Yeah, I used all of my winnings from local rodeos and stuff. Kayla then smiled again to Nate as he agreed to let Roni ride for them in time. You won't regret it, hun, all of our horses are trained the best so the chances she will be thrown or anything are pretty low. But, I'm not promising it won't happen. She was trying to be comforting to him, since she could tell he was still concerned.
Bethany grinned as she heard Roni's brother agree to allow her to ride for them. Roni then said she wouldn't let them down and Bethany nodded. I know you will do great! The horses seem to like you. And that meant a lot to Bethany and Kayla both. They weren't here for the money but instead for the love of their horses.
Nate and Veronica Cole, Spencer Yelnats
Nate looked at her. ''Im not really worried about her getting thrown or kicked by one of your horses. I know that they are very well behaved. Im worried that someone else's horse will kick as she walks by and then get her head cracked.'' he said. He smiled at her comforting though. ''Your a sweat heart.'' he said. He looked at her and then to the horse.
Roni smiled, ''They do? I think its cause the horses back home helped me get used to having horses around.'' she said. She smiled and sighed a relief, her brother had finally said yes! Spencer walked back over and smiled. ''You get to take care of the horses, going to rodeos, whats next? Becoming permanent to living here?'' he joked. That was him, a joker at that. When they were in school, he was the class clown and still passed, even after he got nearly failing grades.
Kayla and Bethany Anderson
Kayla nodded as Nate explained his fears about the other horses. She could understand, there was always some risk when working with horses. That was just the way things were. Maybe she took that risk for granted a bit since she had been around the animals ever since she can remember. She blushed a little as Nate then called her a sweet heart. Thanks. She said before turning back to Reaper. She wore a smile on her face as she scratched the stallion's forehead.
Bethany smiled and nodded. Yeah, and they can sense when people are comfortable around them. Then Spencer walked over and spoke, joking about all that Roni would be doing here. Maybe... She joked back to Spencer. She was never one to be completely serious but she wasn't a complete joker either.
