Kayla, & Bethany Anderson
Matt was one of the first ones up this morning. He knew that they had a rodeo to go to and that Luke would be here any minute with the trailer and they would have to get the horses ready to go. Luke would be bringing Sacred while he would be taking Shot Gun. The girls would also be taking their horses since Kayla would be entering the barrel racing competition and Leila would be entering the junior roping and barrel racing. Though, neither of Leila's horses she had brought with her were trained for the events, so she would be taking one of theirs. He stopped in the kitchen on his way out to the barn to see the girls were making pancakes and eggs. What horses do y'all want loaded? I'll need Mischief Miss and Leila would probably do best on Lullaby. Matt nodded and went to load up the horses since Luke had pulled up already.
Kayla and Bethany were just finishing up making breakfast when the boys came inside. It was just barely daylight. Leila came downstairs to join them. They all hurried to eat and then went outside to make sure they had everything...
Paige, Brook & Jenna Walker
Paige had packed up the girls, with minimal effort into the car to head out to the Ranch. They would be meeting the others in order to go with them to the rodeo. Brook and Jenna had been looking forward to this for the entire week and Paige would be lying if she said she hadn't been excited. The two younger sisters were in the back seat chatting as she drove. It seemed to take longer than usual but eventually the first sights of the ranch were coming into view. A smile was on her face. "We're almost here!" she stated, direction the vehicle down the drive and towards the house. Brook and Jenna squealed and continued to chat excitedly and they peered out the windows.
Finally Paige was bringing the car to a stop. Immediately the girls hopped out and looked around for Kayla and Bethany. Upon seeing them, they both approached quickly. "Hey!" Jenna chirped as she briskly waved her hand.
Paige was trailing behind them a few yards and joined the group. A smile lit up her face as she greeted them, "Hello everyone," she said as she looked around. They appeared to be preparing for the rodeo. She was glad they hadn't been late, although Brook and Jenna both insisted that they leave the apartment a little earlier.
Matt, Kayla, & Bethany Anderson
Matt was the first to spot the approaching vehicle. And it was one he recognized as Paige's. He waved as they pulled up. Soon they got out and they were approaching them. Hey. There was a grin on his face as he greeted them. He was glad to see that they could make it.
Kayla and Bethany smiled as the girls ran up to them. Leila then got out of the trailer where she had been checking on Lullaby one last time. The mare was the same mare she had ridden to many rodeos before. Kayla spoke. Hey, guys! Then it was Bethany who spoke as well. I don't think you guys have met our brother Luke yet? And this is Leila. Leila smiled a shy smile and waved while Luke tipped his hat in greeting.
Matt spoke once again now. Y'all ready? We are taking Kayla's Durango so it seats eight. And Luke is driving his truck. So, I think we should have it covered. The Durango was parked by Luke's truck.
Paige, Brook & Jenna Walker
Paige smiled at Matt before looking to Kayla and Bethany as they spoke. "No, we haven't," she answered as she diverted her eyes to Luke. She offered him that same smile along with a nod of acknowledgement. "Hello," she then said as she looked to Leila. She could tell the girl was quieter than her sisters.
Brook and Jenna also offered their greetings to the two they hadn't met yet. "Hi," Jenna said to Leila. This was the girl that they were talking about last week at the cafe. She was pleased to finally be able to meet her and she hoped they would all have a fun time together at the rodeo. She filled Brook in on all that she missed while they were out. Brook gave a smile to Leila, "So are you in the rodeo?"
"I think we're all ready on this end," Paige said in response to Matt's question. They all made sure ahead of time that they would be good to go. She was also eager to get on the road.
Matt, Kayla, & Bethany Anderson
Leila stood quietly beside her sisters, she was shy by nature which was much different from her sisters. Her sisters would talk to anyone without hesitation but for some reason, Leila was more reserved. She wasn't rude, though, actually she was social. It just took her a while to open up to people. One of the twins then spoke to her and she nodded. Yeah, I do junior roping and barrel racing. This was something she enjoyed doing, and she usually did rather well.
Kayla then spoke. Well, let's go then! She wore a smile as she headed to the driver's seat and got in. Bethany followed and spoke. I call shot gun! She then got into the front seat. Leila climbed into the way back while Matt got into one of the seats in the middle row. Luke got into his truck. Kayla spoke once they were all in. It's not far from here, maybe forty-five minutes to an hour. Then she started the SUV and put it in gear, following behind Luke.
Paige, Brook & Jenna Walker
Brook smiled and nodded, "That's cool." She then turned her head and looked onward as Kayla spoke. They were getting ready to leave. "Come on!" Jenna ordered as she latched onto her sister's arm, somehow digging her nail successfully into the other girl's arm through her jacket. Wincing slightly, Brook followed after the group and they each took a seat in the back as well. "I can't wait!" Jenna said as she quickly buckled her seat belt. She claimed a seat by the window so she could look outside, practically shoving Brook out of the way to get to it first.
Paige took a window seat in the middle row and also buckled her seat belt. She was glad that the girls were finally getting out. Besides spending time with Ladybird, there wasn't much else they did. She breathed in a deep breath and turned her head to look out the window as the vehicle started up and they were on their way out.
Matt, Kayla, & Bethany Anderson
All of them hooked up their seat belts before Kayla pulled out. She wasn't as crazy a driver in her Durango as she was in Bethany's Jeep, so it wouldn't be too crazy of a ride. And she was following behind the horse trailer, so they wouldn't be going too fast. Bethany turned around in her seat and spoke to Paige and the girls. So, have y'all ever been to a rodeo before? She hadn't been paying attention to Luke and Paige's conversation where she had said they hadn't. Kayla then spoke up. Luke, Matt, Leila, and I are all in one event or another today. She grinned at the thought of getting to compete again. She really hadn't had the chance since they had bought the ranch, they had been so busy. Leila sat quietly in the back, not knowing anything to say.
Paige, Brook & Jenna Walker
Jenna remembered quite well the day in the jeep as they took off from the corral to visit the ranch for the first time. Towards the end it actually turned out to be a fun ride. She grinned a little as she thought back to this. "We've never been to one," she answered Kayla before Paige had a chance. Brook was busy sitting there but she wasn't going to reply anyway, figuring Paige would just say they hadn't. Jenna struck again.
Brook was obviously the quieter of the twins but now with Leila sitting here she felt she had to say something. "What event are you in?" she asked as her brown eyes turned to look at the other girl. She was interested in knowing what everyone was doing but since they were all towards the back of the vehicle she figured they could chat among themselves for a bit.
"This is going to be fun," Paige said as she watched the scenery fly by outside the window. She small grin danced on the corners of her lips as she thought of watching each of them. "So what events are everyone doing?" she then asked curiously.
Matt, Kayla, & Bethany Anderson
Leila sat quietly in the back row of seats. Her hands were sat on her lap and her head was turned to the window. Her bright blue eyes watched the scenery as it went past them. Every now and again she would look over and offer a small shy smile to the girls if they were paying attention. She wanted to make friends but she wasn't sure if they would really like her. Then one of the girls spoke to her. Leila responded softly. I'm in the junior roping and barrel racing. She looked forward to the event. The excitement she felt about competing again shone in her bright blue eyes.
Kayla, Bethany, and Matt sat rather quietly now. Jenna had answered that they hadn't been to one and Bethany responded. Well, you're in for a fun time, then. She loved going to the rodeos even though she didn't compete too often. She was more into jumping and racing events herself, but she still loved a good old rodeo. Kayla nodded her agreement. Then Paige asked what events they were in and Kayla responded. Well, I do calf roping and barrel racing, Matt and Luke do team roping, Luke also does steer roping and Matt does bucking bronc and bull riding. Pretty much, at least one of them were in each event.
Paige, Brook & Jenna Walker
Brook had a small smile on her face when she asked Leila the question and patiently awaited the answer. She watched the girl curiously but made sure not to continuously stare at her as that would just be creepy-- and Brook herself hated when people stared at her. It was rather unnerving. Now Jenna on the other hand...
Brook nodded when Leila said she was in roping and barrel racing, two events that she had at least seen on television. She had some idea of how they worked but it became a problem when TV schedules conflicted. She never got to watch them in their entirety but at least now she was excited to see them in person. "That's pretty cool," Brook said, almost mimicking what she spoke earlier.
Jenna smiled determinedly when they responded to her answer. Now she was sort of sitting in her own little world as she stared out the window almost as if in a trance. She was thinking about the rodeo.
"Wow, how did you all get started in these events?" Paige asked them as she looked momentarily out the window. She could see the horse trailer up front. Then she turned her dark eyes back to the others.
Matt, Kayla, & Bethany Anderson
Leila nodded as Brook spoke in response to her. There was a smile on her kissers and a twinkle in her eye as she thought of the excitement of competing. As shy as Miss Leila was, she loved to compete. Whether it was with the horses at a rodeo or with her Border Collies on the agility course. She loved to push herself and her animals to be the best that they could possibly be, as long as it didn't endanger her animals. Yeah, it's pretty fun. I could teach you guys sometime if you want? She was trying to make friends and hopefully the girls wouldn't think she was being rude or pushy.
Matt was the one to speak when Paige asked them how they got started in the events. Well, we grew up on a huge cattle ranch, so a lot of the roping events and events having to do with cattle we learned from the ranch. Then we often had to break young horses or wild horses so i just got into bucking bronc and bull riding from that. So pretty much, it all branches from things we have all done as long as we can remember. The girls just nodded as their brother went on to explain how they had started competing.
Paige, Brook & Jenna Walker
Brook smiled as Leila spoke. She turned her eyes to look at her sister Jenna but found that the other girl was still gazing absentmindedly out the window. Brook looked back to Leila and nodded. "That would be great!" she stated, feeling a short rush of excitement as her voice left her mouth. She then took a moment to poke her elbow into Jenna's side, which caused the other to give a sharp yeowl in protest. "She can teach us!" Brook chirped in her light voice, to which Jenna simply nodded. She hadn't caught their whole conversation, but if Brook was with it then she was too.
Paige listened as they told her how they got into the events. It sounded like hard work to her, something requiring lots of physical exertion-- in other words, qualities that Paige didn't quite possess. "You all must be quite talented at it," she said as she tilted her head just a bit. She then peeked into the back seats to check on the other girls before finding they were off in their own conversation. At this Paige turned back around and settled herself back into her seat.
Matt, Kayla, & Bethany Anderson
Leila smiled a little bigger, a little surer, as the girl seemed very excited that she had offered to teach her and her twin sister how to rope and barrel race. Yeah, it's really, really fun. She knew that it was also a lot of work to actually be good but the fun cancelled the hard work out in her mind. After all, what was worth doing if you didn't have to first work for it? She wondered how she and Lullaby might do at the event. This would be her first time competing in this town and she was a little nervous.
Kayla and Bethany sat in the two front seats and Kayla shrugged when Paige said they must be quite talented. Matt did the same. They were both the types to not 'toot their own horn' as they say. It was Bethany who spoke up. Yes, they are amazing. She had never really gotten into the events as much as her siblings, but she knew that they were good. We'll be there soon. Kayla stated as she saw a sign that said the town they were headed to was only twenty miles away.
Paige, Brook & Jenna Walker
Brook continued to smile at Leila, her mouth lengthening all the while. She'd be grinning ear to ear if it was at all possible. They would love to try something new, especially after all the time spent practicing their show jumping on Ladybird. The mare was a bit hasty and sometimes even a tad lazy but she managed to get the job done-- most of the time. "Well, we'd love to give it a go," she said, gently clasping her hands together and sitting them in her lap.
Jenna was indeed happy about the proposal as well, although you could tell that once again her mind was drifting. The smile faded as she looked back out the window at the passing scenery, before she turned forward again, about to ask if they were almost there. Kayla answered the question before she had to even ask. Jenna could be somewhat impatient at times, particularly while waiting for something like this.
Paige smiled and nodded, looking ahead. She also spotted the sign soon after Kayla announced they were would be there soon. At this she sat and quietly waited for them to arrive.
Matt, Kayla, & Bethany Anderson
Soon after they had seen the sign, they were pulling into the area where the events would be held. Luke got out of the truck and walked back to the Durango. I'll go get us checked in, y'all can get the horses to the barn. Kayla, Matt, and Bethany agreed. All four of the remaining siblings got out of the car now and approached the trailer. Matt opened the ramp and let it down to the ground. He then went in and led out the first horse. She was a bay roan tovero American Paint and very flashy. She was one of the newest mares to Clover Fields. Her name was Perfect Lullaby. He handed her lead rope to Leila since she was the one who would be riding the mare. Kayla went into the trailer then and brought out Mischief Miss, the sorrel splash overo mare. Next was Matt's chestnut sabino Mustang who he led out. Last was Luke's mare, a palomino blanket Appaloosa who Bethany led out of the trailer. Each of the four siblings held the lead rope to a horse. Matt looked to Paige and the twins before speaking. We have to take them to the barn then we can have a look at the competition. That was what they usually did, looked around at the horses they would be up against. The four walked towards the barn...
Paige, Brook & Jenna Walker
All three of the sisters' eyes lit up at the sight as they finally pulled into their destination. They each got out of the car. Brook adjusted her coat as Jenna stuck her hands up in an enthusiastic stretch. Paige started off after the others, soon followed closely by the twins. They all watched as each of the horses were lead down out of the trailer. One after the other, it seemed as though the trailer was bigger inside than it looked on the outside. As usual, Brook and Jenna's eyes seemed to glaze over at the sight of each beautiful equine. Striking creatures they were, surely they could only do do well.
When all the horses were on the ground the three once again followed. They were now headed for the barn. Jenna could feel her excitement rising as she took steps that almost bounced. Brook was also excited but she was doing a better job at not showing it so outwardly. Paige simply looked ahead, interested in seeing something new. "Need any assistance?" Paige asked, wondering if they needed any help getting the horses situated and whatnot.
