Kayla and Bethany had just recently gotten settled in to their new ranch. The house and stable had been built especially to their order and they were both very spacious which was something that they went for when designing. It was pretty early in the morning, and the horses that they had already gotten here from back home had just been cared for, so far all of their chores were finished. So, now all there was to do was pretty much just hang around the farm.

The temperature was pretty nice, being in the upper 40s, which still called for long sleeves but no jacket was needed for these girls. They just wore their old worn out blue jeans, old tennis shoes, and a long sleeve button up plaid shirt. Both of them had a cowboy hat placed on their heads. They were expecting some new arrivals today, a few paints along with a Quarter Horse, and a Lusitano.

Just as Kayla said something to her sister about wondering when the horses would arrive a trailer was seen being pulled up the dirt road. Both girls leaned against the wooden fence until the truck stopped and a man got out. Kayla was the first to approach him, followed closely by her younger sister, Bethany. As he spoke about the horses both girls nodded and then the man quickly went to getting the horses out.

The first to be unloaded was a beautiful buckskin and white paint stallion who the man introduced as Thunder. Kayla took his lead rope as it was offered to her and patted the stallion. The next to be unloaded was the brighter colored older mare. She too was quite a beauty. Bethany took the lead of this mare and then they waited. Once the younger mare was unloaded, Kayla lead the way to the stalls.

I'm going to put Thunder here in the fifth stall on the right, the mares go on the left. You can put them in the sixth and seventh stalls

She put the stallion in his stall then turned to wait for the others.

Trailer

He nodded and led the mare to the seventh stall and took her halter off and exited the stall and closed it and hung the halter. He then led the two back out and went back in. he brought out the dunskin Quarter Horse Stallion and handed his lead rope off. This is Patrick Sunny SideHe spoke calmly.

He then got the last one and brought her out and handed to the other sister and she is Lightning gun JasmineHe spoke. He took out their five bags of feed each labeled. This should be enough grain to help you tranfer them onto to your grainHe spoke and then bid them fair well.

The stalls already had the horses names on the metal plate on the doors, so it would be easy to tell which horse was to go where. Kayla settled the stallion in to his roomy new stall, taking off his halter and such, hanging it on the hook outside his door. Bethany did the same with the older mare and then the two of them walked outside with the man they were buying the horses from.

The next horse to be led out of the trailer was the dunskin Quarter horse stallion. He was beautiful to say the least. She was already thinking of who they might breed him with some time in the near future. She was not set on any one of her mares yet but she knew that he would definitely add some pretty colors to their lines. Kayla took his lead rope as it was handed to her.

Next, the Lusitano mare was taken out of the trailer, the girls did not breed this breed, but she was a beautiful horse and should be a great riding horse. To tell the truth, Bethany just could not pass this pretty girl up. She took the lead rope and as the grain was unloaded and sat against the fence they thanked the man and then led the mare and stallion to their stalls in the barn. They would return to bring in the grain momentarily.

After the horses were in their stalls they went back out to carry in the grain to the feed room. Soon they would begin assessing the personalities of each horse separately. Though, they wanted them to settle in a bit first.

So, they left them to settle in for a few hours, going to do some stuff in the house before returning in the evening. Kayla went to the Paint stallion's stall first while Bethany went to the stall that held the buckskin Lusitano.

Kayla stood outside the horse's door until he would approach while Bethany held a hand out to the mare. Their dogs walked around the aisles, being calm and quite so not to disturb the horses.

Thunder & Jasmine Jasmine moved to her stall door and sniffed at her and then attempted to bite her hand to test it.

Kayla stood silently at the stallion's stall. She kept a neutral posture, she knew that horses were not like dogs and they tended to like being treated more like equals than dogs. Dogs needed to know who the boss was at all times while horses once their trust was gained and you showed them you meant business, they were generally good to go. Kayla knew that stallions were much harder to handle than mares or geldings, and this one surely would not trust her, he had not been around her until today, so she expected for it to take a while. When he noticed her presence he tossed his head to the side and then slammed his hoof on the ground. She read the rest of his body language and saw that his ears were not flattened back so that was a good sign, she figured that he was just doing it because of the horse flies. She clicked her tongue and then held an apple slice out to him on a flattened palm.

Bethany had held her hand out to the mare as a friendly gesture, and as she did so at first the mare sniffed at her hand and then she tried to bite at it. Bethany pulled her hand away, though she did not act intimidated. She just moved so the mare wouldn't bite her hand. Then in a firm voice she told the mare no, she was sure that the mare was just testing her and she would not let her get away with things like this.

Thunder & Jasmine

Thunder saw the apple slice and at first he just threw his head again and snorted then he took a step forward, and another. Till he was close enough that he could stretch his neck and aimed to lip up the apple.

Jasmine snorted and tossed her head side to side when the girl brought her hand away. I snorted and moved closer and attempted by pushing her head out of the stall attempted to grab her hair this time. One ear forward the other back

Kayla watched as the stallion tossed his head as she held the apple out to him. She waited for a moment, not moving. Soon he moved forward and lipped the apple from her flattened palm. As he munched on it she raised her hand to stroke his forehead, if he would allow it. If he pulled away then she would not push him.

Bethany was pretty good at reading the mare's body language, she was glad to see that she was interested, that was told by her ears. Having one back and one forward was normally meaning that she was listening and interested. As the mare began to bite at her hair she did not correct her, this was a way that horses groomed each other's manes, so it was actually seen by Beth as a beginning sign of friendship. She reached to stroke the mare's neck.

Thunder & Jasmine

He snorted and let her as he ate the apple and then he lipped at her hand.

She snorted and nipped andp ulled at her hair.
