The Red Brood
Leader: Patriarch Dyer
Description
The main physical difference between Reds and the other broods is their thicker build and greater muscular strength. They also tend to have slightly shorter, denser tails. Many have relatively large scales and simple horn structures, though this trait isn't as defining for them as their thicker build is.
Shades of red are their predominate scale color, with brown being another color typically found on them.
Magic
The magical prowess of the Reds revolves around heat and flames. All dragons are capable of breathing fire, but no other Brood can compare to the heat these dragons can produce, nor can any control their own flames like they can. Reds don't just spray out fire at random, directing their flames with no more control than a human with a flamethrower - they can manipulate and wield it with incredible accuracy against targets, giving the flames a life of their own to twirl through the sky in arching displays, or to chase after enemies like a guided missile.
Young Reds are only capable of producing sparks of fire like any other dragon, though they tend to acquire even this basic ability much sooner than the other Broods. It isn't unheard of for hatchlings to spark their first fire before they are even three months of age, and to progress to full-fledged fire breathing before they become drakes. As they grow older and their power strengthens, their ability to manipulate the flames grows as well. Older dragons have the capacity to not only wield their own flames, but control the flames of others, and can snuff out - or strengthen and control - any flame, whether it comes from a forest fire, a human camp, or the from the maw of another dragon.
Along with this magical gift, a Red's ability to cope with heat is tremendous. They can traverse through the heart of a forest fire and show no sign of ill health or damage from the intense heat that would kill other dragons. Indeed, the Reds tend to thrive in hot climates, and even when they are in cooler places, their body radiates enough heat to melt any ice or snow that's near them.
Guidelines
"Use respect when interacting with other broods, and report any conflicts immediately to your Patriarch. The other broods are our allies, and we are to aid them if the need arises.
Humans are to be treated with due respect and not killed, harassed, or otherwise disturbed." - Patriarch Dyer
The Blue Brood
Leader: Matriarch Valdrovas
Description
Blues tend to be a bit more lithe than many other Broods and have a longer, wiry look to them, particularly in the muzzle. Where long jaws are common for their kind, their protruding teeth are what tend to distinguish them the most.
Their predominant color is blue, though teal and aqua tones are sometimes more prevelant, and can sometimes lead some Blues to be mistaken for Greens.
Magic
The Blue Brood are known for their affinity with the cold and general preference for living in frigid landscapes that would make most other Broods uncomfortable. Even when they are in warmer climates, the area immediately around a Blue is often several degrees cooler than the surrounding air and surfaces.
As Blues grow in strength and magic, their abilities go from a simple cooling of their surroundings to completely freezing materials with a simple touch. More powerful Blues can sap the heat from nearby areas or objects without having the touch them, and are easily capable of freezing most creatures to death within minutes.
Guidelines
~Other Broods: We are not at war with any other broods, and courtesy should be extended to other brood members when encountered. If nesting sites of non-Blues is discovered within the Highlands, or concerning behavior is noted by opposing broods, report these incidents to your Matriarch or her consorts.
Regarding Humans: Humans are to be killed on site, and any colonies spotted within the Highlands are to be reported to your Matriarch or her consorts.
Regarding Hybrids: Hybridization is strictly forbidden among Blues.~ - Matriarch Valdrovas
The Purple Brood
Leader: Matriarch Treyvonna
Description
Purples are built much like the Blues, with the longer muzzles and an athletic form. They don't often have the protruding teeth of the Blues however, and are instead known for a greater number of horns and showy spines about their heads, back, and tail.
This Brood comes in shades of Purple (sometimes dark enough to mistake for black) and pink.
Magic
The Purples' magic revolves around electricity, with a special affinity for storms. The scales of hatchlings (and sometimes the eggs themselves) often collect static electricity and will discharge to offer mild shocks to anyone other than another Purple touching them. The shocks generally aren't harmful, but can be unpleasant and even painful, depending on how much electricity as built up on the scales or shells.
Older hatchlings and young drakes can begin gathering this electricity and wield it to produce larger shocks and small arcs of wild energy powerful enough to stun smaller creatures. As they grow older and their magic strength increases, the bolts of electricity produced becomes larger, further reaching, and more accurate. Older dragons with great power can produce bolts of lightning.
Producing bolts of electricity of even moderate sizes takes a lot of energy from a Purple, thus they cannot produce continuous bolts for any great length of time without wearing themselves out. The only exception to this is when thunderstorms are around. Such storms will energize a Purple, allowing them to wield their power to its fullest without growing tired or weakened.

The Green Brood
Leader: Matriarch Isimek
Description
Greens tend to be very lithe and streamline, and generally lacking in showy horns and spines. This build lends well to the forested environments that many Greens seem to enjoy, allowing them easier passage around trees and vegetation where other Broods would struggle.
This Brood is also characterized by having shorter, broader snouts, and relatively longer tails. Scales tend to be much smaller as well, though this does not detract from the toughness of their thick hides.
They come in shades of green and yellow, and can sometimes be mistaken for Blues.
Magic
Growth is the Green's center of power. While not one of the most formidable of powers when it comes to attacking and defending, Greens have the unique ability of recovering from injuries that would be fatal to other dragons, and in general withstanding more damage than their draconian brethren. This is achieved by healing the worst of their wounds to stave off blood loss, though the amount of healing done and how quickly it can be accomplished depends on how powerful a particular Green is.
Along with manipulating their own healing, Greens can influence the growth of plant life around them, and very powerful Greens can summon vines from the ground to twine around their enemies or ensare prey. This ability to influence growth on plants can also be used on other living creatures, allowing talented Greens to mend the wounds of their friends and allies.
Their power over growth has its limitations though. Greens cannot cure themselves or others of illnesses - they can only encourage healthy tissue to generate. This has caused many Greens frustration during the plauge on Usearous, as their powers could do nothing to stop the sickness or save those infected by it.
Guidelines
~Humans are to be avoided if possible, but not needlessly attacked. Diplomacy is important between not only our Brood and other Broods, but also between our Brood and humans. However, if a human poses an immediate threat to a Green, they are to be killed.
If a dragon, whether Green or from another Brood threatens a Green, report to Matriarch Isimek so it can be dealt with appropriately. But if a dragon poses an immediate physical threat to a Green, necessary force may be used to drive away or subdue the attacker (or in serious cases, kill them) before reporting to Matriarch Isimek for diplomacy options.
Finally, hybridization between a Green and a dragon of another Brood is frowned upon, but permitted if both parties consent.~ - Matriarch Isimek
The Black Brood
Leader: Patriarch Lorkhan
Description
Most Blacks have a sinewy body and are known for their agility and flexibility. Their scales tend to be more pointed, and like the Purples, they tend to have more showy horns and a greater assortment of spikes along their wings and back.
They are predominantly black in color.
Magic
The Black's power revolves around manipulating light waves, primarily with the visible spectrum, though they have the ability to detect infared and ultraviolet light as well, unlike other Broods.
Older hatchlings have the ability to absorb light, darkening their bodies to the point that they appear to be silhouettes, without any light reflecting from their scales. This is a particularly handy tactic young dragons use when trying to evade danger, as it allows them to blend in with shadows, or disappear almost entirely in the darkness of night. Their ability to see infared and ultraviolet offers a second advantage to this, affording them vision where other dragons would struggle.
As their power grows, Blacks can learn the art of bending light around themselves, so that they appear nearly invisible. Alternately, they can absorb all light that hits them, effectively erasing all detail from their body, so that they appear as a shadow, even in in the direct glare of the sun. In reverse of this, they can expel this light in a blinding flash from their bodies, temporarily blinding or stunning potential foes.
Very powerful old dragons can extend the reach of their light-absorbing powers to cast the ground or nearby objects into shadow, or render them invisible.

The White Brood
(Note: Characters cannot be joined with the Mind Reading ability)
Leader: Patriarch Saekrix
Description
Whites tend to be long of body, tail and neck, and overall more serpentine in appearance. They are known for having particularly hard but smooth scales, and are generally not as muscular as most other broods.
They are predominantly white, and it is not uncommon for their scales to have an iridescent sheen to them.
Magic
The realm of the mind is where the Whites have influence. A bit unique amongst the dragons, one White's power may differ from another, and deal with a different aspect of the mind. Some can communicate telepathically, others can control and influence dreams, and still others can cause hallucinations and delusion. Very few are capable of controlling all of these aspects.
Very rarely, some develop the ability to read minds.

The Yellow Brood
Leader: None
Description
Yellows are of a stockier form, much like the Reds. Many tend to be long in the legs, and generally have longer tails than any other brood. Body length rarely exceeds fifty feet.
They are predominantly yellow and amber, with orange coloration being common.
Magic
Yellows are masters of acoustics. From a young age, members of the Yellow brood can begin mimicking the sounds of other creatures, and are extremely sensitive to noises around them. This enables hatchlings to tell the difference between the creeping approach of a predator, and the movements of a harmless herbivore. Hatchlings are also capable of emitting a stunning range of high and low frequency sounds when disturbed, which both alerts all nearby Yellows and generally disturbs the hearing of their would-be attacker.
As Yellows grow and become more proficient, their mimicry extends to copying the voices of other dragons. They can also control the strength and direction of their voices, and can both hear and communicate at frequencies above and below the range of other dragons.
Stronger dragons have even greater control over the intensity of the soundwaves they produce. By targeting enemies with controlled soundwaves, often beyond their attacker's range of hearing, they can induce nausea, discomfort, and disorientation. Depending on the strength of the attack, they can completely incapacitate their rivals from a safe distance.

The Gray Brood
(Not Available for Joining)
Leader: None
Description
Grays are very lean-bodied, sinewy creatures. They are experts in agility, both on ground and in the air, but very few are known for their strength. Their average length rarely exceeds eighty feet.
This Brood tends to have smaller, softer scales as well, and are best known for having fleshy whiskers and barbels. They come in shades of gray, but very subdued tones of blue, silver, and purple are not unusual.
Magic
Unlike the other Broods, Grays do not possess magic, and do not grow crystals. Instead, it is rock, mostly granite, that forms very slowly where they reside.
Where Grays cannot wield any magic of their own, they can absorb magic from the other Broods, either by being in the presence of another dragon, or by consuming their crystals. This allows them to briefly wield any magic they come in contact with, whether it by the electric energy of the Purples, or the healing magic of the Greens. The downside to this is that the act of absorbing power weakens the other dragon, lowering their own magical strength as it is channeled into the Gray.
